Two words: It works!

I built a greenhouse with a window and lined it on the bottom of the lower bed. In PNW we have very few frost days. But after 6 days passed with 28 degrees a month ago, not a single bed froze.

Not suitable for outdoor use.

North Florida here and thought this product could be used to protect the water line outside the pumping station. After you receive the product and read the entire manual, it must not be used outdoors. Returned.

Our pipes would freeze again!

We've had windy and cold weather that REALLY froze the pipes to our water heater, but luckily we were able to thaw them out without damage. This winter, there was no need to worry about the pipe freezing through. Glad this product exists.

MD Building Products 64428 18 foot thermostatic tube heating cable

Little did I know I had to wrap duct tape around the tube and then wrap everything with waterproof tape. We have freezing cold weather about 2-3 days a year in Los Angeles and the installation doesn't seem worth the effort.

Excellent purchase! On time delivery!

So glad to have this option compared to not having running water in the annex all year round. But I'm not sure about the consumption costs. I know older heating cables were more prone to fire and expensive to run. I just got my electric bill which actually doubled. I only received a 9 foot section of this stuff and I'm hoping that the higher electrical "shock" (pun intended) was a combination of other factors, not just the use of the product. My rating is based on the speed of delivery and itsโ€ฆ

Good thermal tape and instructions

The chart on the back shows the recommended lengths for various pipe types from 1/2" to 1". It worked well at temperatures < 0 F on a much larger pipe when tightly wound. I precalculated the length of the ribbon for each spiral by multiplying the tube diameter * 3.1459 (pi). The number of spirals by taking the total length of the pipe and dividing it by the spacing you want (which is what I guessed). Estimated length by dividing the number of spirals by the length of each spiral. Walk in and

FOLLOW UP - DO NOT RECOMMEND

We purchased this heating tape and its insulation and installed it on 9/2011. It still works. Installation was easy and not complicated. This last purchase is a backup. This is a CONTINUE of my original review of January 8, 2013. Failed to install thermal tape 9/2011. I woke up early in the morning on 01/21/2013 and the pipes were frozen. We live in a mobile home that was built for us in 1992 and have lived in it for 20 years. The original thermal tape served us for 15 years, after which itโ€ฆ
