Very stable base, best for welding and soldering

First I used two shorter holders to solder two 22 gauge wires together. I potted the wires and then used a small amount of solder to solder the wires together. I have to do this often and it's never been easier. I've used several other third-party tools for this task, but this one was way better. I like the heavy base and the really stable mounts that can be moved around the base. The only problem was the two screws holding the flip flops in place. I had to insert it with pliers. I won't remove

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Best helping hands

This soldering help is well designed and a welcome addition to my desktop. The base plate is solid and heavy. The non-slip feet make it very stable and non-slip. Four flexible arms can be positioned as needed to complete any task. Short point PCB holders are just as versatile as the board can be placed and fixed onto the points, or the holders can be wrapped around the edge of the board making it very stable. Throw away the other soldering aids that are PITA and get this. You won't beโ€ฆ

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Some bugs

strong and holds position

I bought a universal soldering iron with a stand, but the "helping hands" didn't stay where I put them. After wrestling with this for an hour, I gave up and bought a magnetic helping hand. It was exactly what I had hoped for. I only needed flexible auxiliary arms (no board holder); The arms were very flexible and stayed in place once installed. The magnets are very strong and will hold your hands securely in place. Worth the extra cost. I understand why all their reviews are very positive.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • New competitors are here
