Received another item

Received the hob today. Different model number. Also, it only has 8 temperature/watt settings versus 13. But most importantly, the instructions say not to use a weight over 10kg (22lbs) instead of the 133lbs stated in the product description. For home brewing, 10kg doesn't even make a 3 gallon batch. So I'll report back tomorrow.

Simple operation at the touch of a button

First induction cooker. 20 minutes to bring 3 gallons to 155f infiltration. Simple operation at the push of a button. Large cooking surface. Effective. Should have bought for brewing a few years ago. Safe low temperature outside the burner during cooking. Would give a 5 if the temperature control had a setting between 800 and 1200 watts for more accurate temperature control.

Pros
  • Good workmanship
Cons
  • Not sure

I needed an alternative to propane and it worked.

I use this for brewing beer, it takes 30-40% longer to fully boil 7 gallons than propane, but is much safer than using a propane burner on my fire escape (I live in a city apartment ). I can use it indoors with no safety issues, and I also use it to cook lobster and corn on the cob much faster than my glass cooktop. Luckily I had a 240 plug and some conductive pans.

Pros
  • Great for a small home

  • Approximately

Great for 5 gallon BIAB Homebrew

I bought this for brewing gallon BIAB Homebrew batches. So far it works great. I have a 10 gallon stainless steel kettle and it heated 8 gallons of 64 degree tap water to 162 degrees in 42 minutes at 3500 watts. Then he heated the wort from 154 to boiling in 25 minutes. A reasonably good boil could be achieved with this amount. I was able to leave it on the 3500w setting for the duration of cooking. I hooked up a new 20 amp circuit and installed a 20 amp plug designed for this cooktop.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes

For induction brewer

A few test batches made in preparation for a brew day, no complaints. I got help from a Home Depot electrician and a couple of engineers to convert the dryer's plug to NEMA 6-20p so I didn't have to install an extra outlet in my apartment. Basically all parts from 30 amp to 20 amp are about $35 extra. I have a Northern Brewer MegaPot 1.2 10 gallon, it overflows the rim a little, however there is no heat transfer loss and it keeps boiling. for an hour or so at about 3500 watts.

Died after 4 months

We really liked this induction cooker, it works stably, quickly heats liquids. The button responded. However, after less than 4 months it started turning off randomly during heating (we cook pretty much the same as before) and may also have gotten stuck on a high setting when we turn it down to a lower power to cook. Now it's completely dead. We've tried several times to contact the Dongguan seller via Revain's messaging system for a warranty claim. However, we received no replies at all. Now…

Brewing 5 minutes out of the box

full disclosure made a batch with it but it worked great. Took a little on the burner/turned it off during the soak to keep it at 150 degrees. After that, the first boil took about 15 minutes to complete the boil. I achieved this by increasing it to 240 degrees C (the controls here are Watts; Temp/C and also in Chinese). After I got to the full boil. I lowered the temperature back down to 140°C for the rest of the hour. unrealistic accuracy. There was no boiling and the thermometer showed us…

Saved me a TON of propane!

I've been using it for home brewing for a few months now and I love it. I had to plug in my own NEMA 6-20 220V outlet but it wasn't difficult at all. I was skeptical that for the price it was poor quality and made in China but this unit is very high quality and I had no problems with it. Remember that the magnet will not work on this hob unless it sticks to the bottom of the pot/pan. Induction cooking only works with black materials. As with all product features, the only thing I can comment on

Pros
  • Heavy Duty
Cons
  • Damaged

Once connected to the right socket, it's fantastic for cooking food. Now that brewing is so easy, I cook something this way almost every day. It is very easy to keep clean and I also find the controls simple. I usually turn it up and until the water boils (in seconds) then lower it (Celsius) to 80 100 or 120 depending on what I'm cooking. To maintain one of those temperatures, it turns on at full power for a short time, then turns off for a short time. That means it gets way hotter than 100…
