🚗 Enhance Towing Efficiency with Malone Auto Racks SpeedLine Mini Ratchet Tie-Downs Review

We bought this item to keep our kayaks safe from Chicago to the Adirondacks. On the way, one of the cables frayed and broke in half, and one of the ratchets flew out of the driver's side window while driving after the second cable failed. If I hadn't opened the window, it would have broken. If I hadn't reacted so quickly, I could have suffered serious injuries to my face, eyes, etc. I would not recommend this product.

Very simple and effective. You don't have to worry about your knotting skills or your choice of rope. I combined this with some quick Sherpak loops and it's done. They use a long rope but I didn't want to cut it so I wrapped it in a bun and zipped it up to the rope. That way if I need more length I can just cut the zipper off. I've gone back and forth several times in Massachusetts (Mass Pike) with a kayak in the lead and it was very safe. Also a simple release.

I have 2 Malone Seawing kayak mounts and have replaced the Bowlini that came with those mounts with these Speedline mini ratchets. For me, tensioning the line with this ratchet is much easier than trying to tie a tight line. Also, I have found that the lines, once tightened, do not loosen when moving! Highly recommended. I first saw these recommendations in a YouTube video where someone was demonstrating naval aircraft carriers. She was the one who recommended these speedline ratchets.

I have two sets of these zip ties. If I were considering the first set I would rate them 4 or 5 stars. They work very well and make it quick and easy to attach my kayaks to my vehicle. My rating for the 2nd set is 1 star because one of the ratchets broke as soon as I started applying tension. I took some play and the two plastic halves of the ratchet assembly broke. These are the perfect slings for transporting our kayaks on the roof. They are fully assembled and ready to drive. They have clips on both ends so they are very easy to attach and tighten. They are also easy to remove. I often see people transporting kayaks without bow and stern lines. They are in use 99.9% of the time and don't really support anything. That's why people ignore them. Contradict conventional wisdom. I think these bow and stern lines are fine and I may not be using them anytime soon.
