I have the 3 inch size and it works well for skimming over my inflatable pool. Anything bigger might be unwieldy; anything else would not be as effective. A colleague taught me the jacuzzi trick with a net: a few spins in a circle, then back and forth, and the pool looks great. Capturing what I can barely see with my eyes. I used this fine mesh aquarium net as a skimmer for a dual tub washer that I use to wash dogs. This allows me to remove most of the dog hair floating in the water. before pouring it into my bath. I attached drawstring mesh bags to the drain hose to also catch the dog hair that spilled out. With this net I can wash their clothes, pee pads and blankets and pull out their hair to avoid clogging the drains.

Just what I need for my 5 gallon upright aquarium with 5 male guppies. Complete water change except for gravel. If it's the latter, I definitely need a net so I can get them out and put them in a temporary storage container. and this one works fine.
