Good but not perfect accuracy

I like the readings and settings of the thermometer and the fact that it's digital. I've been making Christmas candy for over 40 years and have had an abundance of thermometers. a little more specific. Made brittle peanuts and got it to 300, hard crack, but brittle peanuts were light in color, not golden. It appears to be off and reads hotter than it is. Therefore, I recommend the manufacturer to calibrate it again to perfection. I would only recommend this for experienced confectioners and not

Best I've found so far

I use it to make candy. Many sweets. I own a candy shop and make hundreds of pounds a month. I use this every time and always get accurate, consistent, and easy to read results. I like that the display is adjustable. The downside is that the clamp sucks (like all thermometer clamps) and the temp reading lags a bit, but not too much. Sometimes the thermometer needs a "break". I think too much heat or water gets on the display and causes the display to fail, but once I take it out it gets better…

The deep fryer buyer or sweeter readers should have that.

Exactly the same product you would buy in a restaurant but at a fraction of the cost. We use this when we cover our candy flavored popcorn varieties in our shop. Accurate temperature readings and fairly durable. The battery cover slipped off me once, but it shook in the kettle, spinning to 193 degrees Fahrenheit. I removed the metal front panel by unscrewing it. I think those who use it once a year to make candy for Christmas will like the storage lid, but for us who use it daily, that metal…

Don't buy this unreliable and useless junk

Not good for candy. I make lots of caramel, candy, and other sweets out of boiled sugar. I've been doing this for years. I used an old thermometer which is quite difficult to read. I figured digital reading would be easier for those old eyes. I tested it on my old backup device. Boiling water was right on. Candy syrup at 215F hit the spot. Candy at 220 was a match. Once it hit 225 F, it stopped being accurate. Kept at the same temperature for a long time. When my thermometer read 230 degrees…

Highly recommended. Much better than a glass thermometer

I've been using this for making candy throughout the Christmas season and LOVE it! Some of the things I love are: - that it beeps when I've reached the set temperature - the clip on the handle is surprisingly easy to attach to the pot - the ability to twist or turn the head to see it better - a medal tag that protects it in storage - long probe with adjustable clamp so it can work with many pan sizes. - Preset temperature values alert you when temperature is reached. Some things I would like to

The best thermometer I've ever had. hands down

I've tried probably 6 or 7 different candy thermometers while working on my candy making skills. Mercury models are a joke. I just can't cook in it. I've looked at a few digital models and I have to say. this is the best so far. You can clearly tell it was designed by someone who actually makes candy. You get the preset temperatures you need, pre-programmed and easy to select, as well as discrete digital readings. The sensor is very accurate. I have tested it with several other probes that are…

Well priced thermometer

I wanted to try this after seeing Elton Brown use it in an old episode of Good Eats. This is a working thermometer but I can't give it 5 stars. I use this pretty much exclusively for making candy where I need to keep a thermometer in the pot. For everything else I use a thermal pen which I love. I was first drawn to the small drop down screen that helps keep the display from fogging up. It doesn't completely prevent screen fogging, but I think it would be worse without it. Considering how hot…
