The best for music.

I've been buying a Maxell XL II for years, my car still has a built in cassette deck, so I make cassettes for city driving and I tell you that you get the best sound for that purpose. I like my highs to be bright and crisp, and I can only get them on XL-II High Bias tapes. I have a separate EQ from my amp so depending on the song and the original recording I can adjust the EQ and I want a clear sound for my car stereo. Depending on what you're buying this cassette for, I say music I don't think

Excellent analog sound quality? would anyway!

I've only recently become interested in analog recording and sound, so I can't say I have much experience with different cassette manufacturers and cassette types. I use a Technics RSB17W cassette deck, which isn't the most expensive cassette deck, but I bought it for $9 from Goodwill. So far I've used Maxell UR90 Type I cassettes to record from vinyl to cassette and I've also hooked up a line in from my computer to record digitally to cassette. I bought this XLII Type II cassette to see if…

Great for recording music and making tape loops

I have it for making tape loops and connections. For general recording I prefer these Maxell Type II tapes and have used them in my Tascam 4-track recorders since I was young. For my purposes, it was now easy to unscrew the case, cut the ribbon, and reseal it to create an endless loop. Whether you're experimenting with tape loops, 4-track, or just want to record onto a cassette in general, this cassette produces a clearer, less boomy or muffled sound than standard Type I cassettes. They're…

Great product, great service

I've been using Maxell XLII audio cassettes since about 1980 and have had very good recording experiences with them. They capture the sound of a vinyl, cassette or CD that I record as a backup so they play almost perfectly on my player. They serve for quite a long time, and the quality of their reproduction does not decrease for many years. As far as I know, Maxell will no longer make the XLII-90. Too bad, it's a great product. I have been purchasing most of my XLIIs from Revain.com or from…

May not work well with high end decks

Like the other reviewer for the 90 minute 5 piece set I can attest that these bands have too much resistance in the mechanism. On my Nakamichi BX-300, they often stop during recording or playback. This is a tension problem where a high-end soundboard intentionally stops the tape from advancing to avoid breaking it. Basically, he thinks the tape is stuck. Cheap decks that don't have this feature can work well with these bands. I had no problems with other commercial cassettes on this deck. My…
