I used them to open the hatch on the back of the truck for tool storage. These gas struts are so strong that they can easily raise the hood of a truck if necessary. One pose is enough, but with two poses I can lift over 140 pounds and keep her in the air. I only wish they included side mounting hardware.

Because it's a pole that has to hold 80 pounds at a time, these things can't deliver. They're light and probably can't support 80 pounds, and both waves flexed like a pretzel when the load hit them. They have been replaced with truck racks and they are heavy duty. Shafts of racks have a larger diameter, which allows them to withstand the load. Don't waste money on them. I wish I could give these zero stars.

I used this pair to raise a 40 lb swing door. At the hinge point to the strut pivot, the door design weight down is 120 lbs. These struts together carry a load of 180 pounds, keeping it light, but it only takes 5 pounds of downward force at the end of the door to close it.
