SOLID Media RAID & Hub

I added 2 x 4TB* SanDISk SSDs with RAID 0 for 8TB and 2 x Seagate 8TB drives with RAID 0 for 16TB. SSDs achieve about 700/850 MB/s R/W respectively; and HD reach about 350/350 MB/s R/W. And with all the extra connections, I leave an old LACIE 8TB plugged in on the side to act as backup for the 8TB SSD RAID because while it was reliable, I wouldn't trust my photo and video libraries on RAID0 without a backup. The only problem is that one set of drives wakes other drives when they go to sleep…

Great for laptops - firmware update needed to fix heat

I've recently switched to using a laptop (M1 Macbook Pro) as my main editing computer, rather than a desktop, so I needed something that would accommodate multiple hard drives and can deploy card reader. I like that one cable from this box provides power, connection for an external monitor, card reader, 4 external drives, one of which is a Time Machine backup, and additional USB ports. This works fine so far, but when I turn off my laptop, the box's fan turns off and the drives heat up to the…

Impressive unit! the best in hard drive cases

I've been a big fan of Mediasonic for almost 10 years and have always been happy with their products. This RAIDunit works very well with my Lenovo px6-300d media server. It's pretty fast. Haven't played any more advanced RAID combinations yet. But the block works great out of the box. My only problem is that it took me multiple attempts to get it into the correct RAID mode. What could make it easier for me? I also like the ability to connect additional storage. In general. Outstanding unit!

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Very functional and intuitive to use.

Overview: As far as hard drive cases go, this is by far the most feature rich I've seen. No, it's not a NAS, but it shouldn't be either. You can still access your drives online through Windows. USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C is very fast. The transfer speed easily exceeds SATA. Other thoughts: Equal amounts of metal and plastic are used. The case itself doesn't look thin. Fan noise is very quiet compared to other multi-drive cases. The hard drives themselves make more noise when accessed. In addition…

Great idea has flaws

Great idea to build a hub and raid tower. My problem is that sometimes when the computer is sleeping, the drives fall and "disconnect incorrectly". I know it's the drive and not the computer that's disconnecting because I've connected a second daisy chain to it via one of its USB 3 ports and it stays connected. Otherwise it's great.

Pros
  • Great choice
Cons
  • Too stupid

Excellent technical support!

Turns out it won't fit 2.5" drives without an adapter, which Mediasonic sells separately! The 2.5" bracket is suitable for both HDDs and SSDs. I had many problems, but the technical support was very helpful. It turns out that my USB C is of the old generation and requires 3.1 gen2. So I'm saving that for future use Thanks for your help.

None of these worked properly

I bought this to fit 4 hard drives and to back up all my important data. Luckily I've only copied so far, I haven't got rid of any of the originals. The RAID setup was an issue, Windows really doesn't handle it very well. After setting it up in RAID 0, twice 2 x 8TB to fill all 4 bays, I attempted to transfer the data. The device keeps disconnecting and reconnecting during the transfer, which leads to errors. Now a drive set gives me a "does not exist" error when I try to view it in Windows. I…
