Not ideal for the tall or large legged people.

I've owned numerous pairs of the pants of this same variety and have loved them all. I decided that I loved them enough that I would give the shorts a try, but I didn't ever try them on prior to making the purchase, I assumed they were just a cut-off version of the pants, and I was almost right. The fit is identical to the pants, but I do have two gripes with them. 1. I am taller than average 6'4" and have a 36" inseam and the legs on these shorts are a bit too short for my taste and…

Pros
  • Used for outdoor work. Pockets are fantastic and well secured.
Cons
  • The waistband is too tight

5.11 Produces Quality Products

5.11 clothing is the best quality I have found. I used to shop exclusively at LL Bean, but 5.11 clothing is as good as any I've found. I own several pairs of shorts and cargo pants as well as belts and have been wearing them for several years with no noticeable wear. My only complaint is they don't offer a 29" inseam length and I end up rolling the cuffs up an inch to keep the back end from dragging on the ground and fraying. Despite my complaint, I enthusiastically recommend 5.11 clothing.

Pros
  • pleased with pants and they look good on me
Cons
  • The Teflon finish wears off quickly

Nice practical short

Has good features w/pockets that are readily usable, tho some pockets could be a bit larger to more readily accommodate cell ph, eye glasses and the like. Velcro pockets act as reasonable security. There is one interesting feature and that is "belt" in the back of the shorts that is evidently for bottled water, I have found this "belt" utilized in combination w/the back pocket, excellent for carrying around a small umbrella in wet weather. Good product, I don't think you will be disappointed…

Pros
  • This was just what I wanted and just as advertised. Good fit, good style.
Cons
  • The fabric is too thin and flimsy

Top quality tactical shorts

Just like their longer counterparts (pants), these shorts are of the highest quality and perfect for tactical exercises or everyday wear. Pockets are in all the right places. Waistband secures them in place, but gives when needed. The Teflon material is great for keeping you looking clean and dry, regardless of the environment. These are definitely worth the price! As others have mentioned, go at least one size larger if you're looking for an athletic fit.

Pros
  • comfortable, light and great value.
Cons
  • The sizing is inconsistent

Good shorts, durable and good looking

Bought these shorts to replace a decade old pair of cargo shorts that simply ran their course (rest ye well, friend, you earned it). I will say I really like these shorts. The pockets, the features, the color. All great. These are durable without being overly heavy, which is an upgrade from the old pair which felt so weighty you might expect them to deflect bullets. Also, the fabric looks like it will resist fading and stains which is a step up from the old pair as well.Lots of pockets in…

Pros
  • The design is sleek and stylish, suitable for various outdoor activities as well as casual wear
Cons
  • The shorts have poor ventilation

tundra is Olive green!

Switched from 5.11 short 11" leg to the 9.5". These seemed smaller in the waist and fit - so it's not just the leg length that is different. I have short legs 31" so the 11" hits my knees, where the 9.5 is just above the knee. Also the Tundra color, in the 11" I got a brown short in the 9.5" tundra is a olive green color short. Picture included. The color not a big deal - I like olive green but it certainly doesn't match the color pictures. The overall smaller size is concerning thou, really…

Pros
  • The gusseted construction allows for a full range of motion without hindrance
Cons
  • The shorts are not appropriate for business casual attire

Nice shorts but a bit loose fitting. Read this if you are cheap.

I hate to give 5 starts, but they are worth the money…don’t cheap out. Being an active Boy Scout leader for the past 15 years, I’ve purchased similar pants and shorts from Propper that did not hold up as nicely as 511 does. I did a side-by-side comparison to a 3 year old 511 pants when I received the new 511 shorts, and there is little difference after 50+ washings. They are semi water repellant that result in less stains, so go easy on harsh washing and let them hang dry to reduce fading…

Pros
  • The high-quality stitching ensures the shorts will last through multiple wears and washes
Cons
  • The shorts are not suitable for all body types

Best cargo pants I've found

I've been looking for good cargo pants for a while. The pockets are too small. These are great! Fit perfect, appear very well made.

Pros
  • Great shorts and great fit
Cons
  • The pockets are too small

Glad I tried them on

Bought a pair of the pants last summer at a local sporting goods grand opening. Glad I tried them on, got the size larger than I normally wear. Hiking and climbing around in the Rockies I don't want them snug or tight in the thighs. Ordered these shorts the same, a size larger, perfect! The pockets are awesome and the material is heavy, not to coolest I've ever worn but these will wear like iron for years. Well worth the $$$.Update - Got both pants and shorts out and measured the waist, these…

Pros
  • The deep pockets allow for ample storage of essentials
Cons
  • The shorts are not suitable for athletic activities

Small cargo pockets

The cargo pockets are much smaller than the pockets on the pants. That’s the only thing about the shorts I didn’t like. The shorts are too long for some people.

Pros
  • The breathable fabric keeps you cool and comfortable in hot weather
Cons
  • The shorts are too long for some people

You won't find better tactical pants or shorts out there

You cannot go wrong with 511 pants & shorts! These are light, strong & fit well. Son goes through pants every 6 to 8 months & shorts every summer.but these 511 pants (& shorts) actually stand up to him.until he outgrows them. He wears the 28x36 size in pants & 28 in shorts. We did try the Propper pants & they fit tighter/snugger. Son describes it as having on far-too-tight brief's underwear (as I am sure most guys understand that kind of pain). Boxers are the preferred style & Propper's don't…

Pros
  • 5.11
Cons
  • The shorts wrinkle easily

Quality material. best in my review

It is Christmas gift, so too early to tell, but upon first inspection, looks nice and good quality. Bought 5.11 tactical pants as gift last year and he was happy with them. Figure these are the shorts version of the pants.

Pros
  • The shorts are machine washable and easy to care for
Cons
  • The shorts have a strange odor

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best shorts for all tasks.

Being a Military Veteran I am taxing and demanding on my clothing. These shorts are hands down some of my favorite. I highly recommend these for whatever job your tasked. I own a pair in just about every color. Rip stop fabric, Teflon coated and gusseted crotch as well. These are super durable and tough as nails. You cannot go wrong with these. Great product, but this is the only one of 6 pair that the prym snap has broken within a month. Don’t know if it the black version or just a one off…

Pros
  • The shorts have a professional appearance suitable for law enforcement or military personnel
Cons
  • The shorts are difficult to iron

Love the pockets - my new review

Love them. Live in Tennessee with the humidity, hard to carry concealed. These make it easier, and love all the pockets As you would expect 5 11''s to be Fit as expected true to size!

Pros
  • As you would expect 5 11's to be Fit as expected true to size
Cons
  • The shorts are too short

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Identical features as pants, but too short for me.

To be fair, I returned my pair because it doesn't go past my knee. I'm tall and It feels weird having my knees show when I'm at work. I feel like a mailman with these on. Despite the whole too short factor, I like these. I own a pair of the pants and these have all the same pockets and features as the pants. Best shorts on the market in my opinion. I just wish they'd make some longer ones like wrangler or Dickies. Right now, Revain is selling the pants for $10 cheaper than the shorts. If you…

Best Shorts Ever Made

These are the best shorts ever made! There are multiple pockets which can hold a variety of things and side straps which are handy for hanging sleeves and other items. They are extremely well made and hold up even after multiple washings.

Pros
  • Like - All.Dislike - Nothing.What do I use it for? It's clothing, I wear them.
Cons
  • The shorts are not breathable enough

Great all-around shorts! Not only do you get the laugh factor of their being actual, real-life "tactical shorts" (like in Reno-911) but they're damned good shorts! The cargo pockets don't sag out, there's a nifty cell phone pocket (for a flip phone or small smartphone) holder for a flashlight or something, lots of belt loops, lots of reinforcement points everywhere, Teflon(tm) fabric protection and they're made of that nifty rip-stop fabric. I wear these riding my bike, and just about…

Pros
  • The shorts offer sun protection with a UPF rating of 50+
Cons
  • The shorts are too utilitarian

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Don’t compare to 5.11 pants

Their pants fit fine and are true to size. These shorts are not: it’s like they took the pattern for size 38 or 40 and put 34” waist on them. The noise from them flapping on a breezy day would be deafening.

Pros
  • The shorts are lightweight, making them ideal for travel or outdoor activities
Cons
  • The shorts have too few pockets

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great work and play shorts

I have been using 5.11 shorts for years. I have been hesitant to buy the lighter weight ones due to the rougher nature of my job. 3 weeks in and I'm impressed. Not only are they cooler and lighter, but also more pockets for gear. Will be buying more.

Pros
  • mens
Cons
  • The pockets are not secure enough

Love TacLite Pants/Shorts

I really like the entire line of taclite pants and shorts and have several pairs in various colors. They're durable, comfortable, and very effective at organizing you EDC items without becoming bulky. I like to keep my pockets as flush and trim as possible and these help evenly distribute items, so you're not cramming everything into your cargo pockets. Only complaint is that I wish the cell phone pocket was very slightly larger. It still works, but is a snug fit. I have a very slim case on…

Pros
  • Teflon finish makes the shorts durable and resistant to stains and spills
Cons
  • The shorts are not moisture-wicking
