Best art paper, give up.

After a lifetime as an artist, this is my favorite drawing paper. Excellent quality. Great colors that last for years. I like the color palette.

Ideal for pastels and charcoal

Anyone who has ever been to a craft or hobby store has probably seen Canson paper. If you have never used it and are thinking of getting into pastel painting or charcoal drawing, I would recommend this. This is a very rough ("toothy") paper so make sure it's the right one for you.

Pros
  • Best in Niche
Cons

Very good paper

Pastel paper was nice and has a really good tooth. I've used it on chalk pastels and it was wonderful. I've used this brand before but in a smaller size a few years ago. Our local art supply store has gone out of business and I've had a really hard time getting my regular pastel paper and I usually enjoy looking at the paper I buy. It's a great alternative that I might have to continue with if Michael doesn't pull himself together.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Slightly torn

For gouache, pastel, oil pastel, chalk, charcoal or colored pencil

Depending on the medium used, you can use either side of this paper. The back or the smoother side of the paper without structure is very suitable for colored pencils. If you haven't tried drawing with colored pencils on toned paper, this will be a lot of fun. You can use lighter colored pencils to create nice accents, usually those that don't show up on white paper. There are options for different colors in the ream, you can get just grays, earth tones or a mix of colors.

Pros
  • Excellent overall quality
Cons
  • Doubtful

New in medium pastels.

I have just started using this paper and am very happy with it. The only downside is that the notebooks only come with 24 sheets. This is essential for pastel drawings, this will be my pastel paper from now on. It's really important, I recently bought 3 different brands of pastels. one hard and two soft, the hard was Prismacolor, one was Soho Urban Artist Soft Pastel and the other was Jack Richeson's signature Round Soft Pastel. I also have two types of pastel paper and let me tell you that…

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Unreliable
