Nice upgrade on an old bike

I put this R472 on a Specialized Epic Carbon bike (early 1990's) with Shimano 105 components with down tube derailleurs and what a difference. The hoods are very comfortable and the shifts are very crisp, perhaps partly due to the installation of Shimano Optislick cables instead of the ones supplied. After cleaning and oiling the drivetrain, it feels like a new bike - it's still just a 7-speed rear cassette, but who needs 10 or 11 speeds?

Pros
  • Dual 2X7 derailleurs
Cons
  • Fits

Second time I've used them to fix the frame, no problems so far.

These underpants represent excellent value for money. I first used them when I needed to replace some old Shimano RSX brifters that couldn't be repaired on a '96 Bianchi Volpe and they worked great. I recently got my old centenary Schwinn Super Sport working and unfortunately we broke too (RSX again!) so I went back to the Micronew. Easy to install and easy to set up. They may not be as good as my Shimano 105 but they were about 4 times cheaper. I will come back when I need them.

Pros
  • Speeds: 2 x 7
Cons
  • A newer model could have been chosen

Great first brifter

UPDATE - Front derailleur broke after a few rides. When switching to a smaller ring, the portion of the ratchet was not engaged with a partial shift to allow for more cross-linking. (Old test part) Works as expected, switching operations are nice and crisp. These are my first brifters. If you're using the left one with a derailleur designed for triple shifting (cheap TZ30) and it works well even with the triple cranks set to switch from big ring to medium, plan on a proper double setup soon to…

Pros
  • Shimano compatible
Cons
  • Price piggy bank
