Stupid label! on Kitchen Utensils & Gadgets

The reason I only gave this grater 1 star is because the manufacturer put a huge super sticky label on the cutting area and on the plastic bowl. After using Goo Gone, acetone and 10 rinses there is still an ugly sticky residue left on the cutting blade. This is without a doubt the most idiotic branding I've ever come across. I've since bought similar paraphernalia at my local Crate and Barrel store to make sure the cutter didn't have that tag.

The blade is quite sharp and easily shaves cheese

Everything is fine. Bought to replace very old cheese graters (don't think I will). The blade is quite sharp and shaves cheese easily. It's a bit thin, which is probably why it's so sharp. It's also a bit small, especially if you buy the cheese in big blocks. The biggest problem for me is that it is labeled "GREAT GRATER". I would call it "EXCELLENT" as the grated cheese is quite small and almost translucent. In the photos you can see how the Microplane Coarse and Extra Coarse compare to my old

Stupid sticker! grated

Would have been 5 stars if it hadn't been for the stupid label. Why didn't they change it after years of complaining? What's behind an incredibly difficult-to-remove sticker on a product, and worse, on a functional part of it? This is completely unnecessary! I have masking tape that I use for temporary labels that stick and peel off, can be reused multiple times and leave no residue. I even have a residue-free tape that works great. It is very strange for a company that prides itself on high…

So I bought them as a gift. The product works as described, but what annoys me is the utter thoughtlessness that Microplane put into its packaging! This product comes in a plastic bag which is fine BUT they put stickers on the blade itself and on the sheath that covers the blade (NOT the plastic bag!). These stickers are not made of "plastic" and tear off easily! OH NO. They're cheap, horrible stickers that peel off when you try to remove them, leaving paper and glue behind. The type you need…

Good wide grill surface but too flexible. Buy narrow version.

After using various Microplane graters for a number of years, here's my verdict: Buy the narrow version instead of the Microplane 40020 Classic Zester/grater. The narrow version is just less flexible, meaning it takes less effort to get good shavings from hard foods (parmesan cheese, whole nutmeg) or pulp from softer foods like garlic or ginger. The wide spatula version requires more pressure to get the same results, which isn't great for my wrists and sometimes causes me to shave my fingers…

Good grater - does the job

I'm tired of bulky graters that are difficult to clean and store, so I decided to give these a try. After reading the reviews I decided on this one. I just wanted a regular grater that grinds to the size of store bought grated cheese. I'm trying to get away from all that processed food (but I love cheese), so I'm just starting to grind up my own store-bought blocks (which saves money too). I like the rubber tip that helps stabilize this chopper and keeps it from slipping. So far I've only used…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
