I didn't think to check the cord was connected properly before installing because I've never seen an extension cord connected the wrong way. Hot and general changing places. Since I already cut a 2" hole in my car, I made a "correction cord" that puts the hot spots and common spots in the correct position. I needed power for my landscape trailer and was tired of running an extension cord through the door. Cut a hole in the side of the trailer, having previously drilled the pilot from the inside. This is basically an extension that goes through the wall/bulkhead. the outlet on the other side of the wall swapped hot and neutral! Many 2-wire electrical devices don't care, although any hot chassis is catastrophic. So I have to cut the cable and swap the wires where they should be resulting in an ugly tape splice OR cut the end and put a new socket OR cut it and connect to another cable e.g. a socket (with an ugly non-waterproof glued splice).
