Great little setup in the Portable A/V category

I bought this setup to complement my off road portable radios. It is much more convenient, always at hand, and there is more power. Worthy purchase. We rarely move more than a mile apart and this radio has a clear signal.

    Pros
    • High test scores for support and durability
    Cons
    • Poorly thought out

    Reliability - Portable Audio-Video

Locked when channel search button is pressed (sometimes), (update date) You fixed this issue. This little radio kicks! I spoke to my wife who runs an A GXT 1050 and puts out 5 watts 8 miles between houses, hills and trees and was very pleased with this little fella.

    not good for radios impress

I bought this basic model along with 3 portable radios. I thought that the base would have more power and range, but it was no different from portable ones. I have mine in a Polar Ranger and had to install an external speaker as I couldn't hear what was being said. The range isn't impressive, but we'll try a different antenna type to see if that helps. These radios are very small and therefore do not take up much space.

    Pros
    • Consistent test results
    Cons
    • boring packaging

After the initial problem this unit was excellent! With defective adapter for the cigarette lighter. I checked the pins and finally soldered a new power supply with an LED to show it was on. This radio is excellent! A significant improvement over using only portable devices. Very impressed with how far it can send and receive. I am also interested in the MXT115 but reviews are mixed.

Output power is only 3W, not 5W

I got this little GMR radio today. As an electronics engineer, I put the radio on a stand to test the power output. using a 440/500MHz power meter and a 50 ohm dummy load. The radio output was 3 watts instead of the nominal 5 watts. for a low-power transmitter, this is a large loss. With a low power transmitter you need all the power you can get. So losing 2 watts is a big deal. but the radio itself is well made and still worth its price. So don't expect 5 watts when you buy it.

Loud and clear - 4 miles of the real world with a good antenna

So far so good, it's hard to beat the price of this little device. Batteries do not need to be charged, the range is excellent even with the supplied antenna. I switched to an MXTA11 antenna found on another site and was able to communicate with the MXT105 in my truck through the MXT105 I had installed in my wife's 4Runner 4.1 miles away before losing signal. This is not line of sight, there are a lot of trees on the way. These units are very reliable for caravans, simplex communications (if…

    100% RECOMMEND - Portable AV

Value for money - excellent Product quality in use - excellent Manufacturer - excellent* Ease of use - great Size of the actual radio is very small We went on a trip with a group of friends. One was a professional electrician who was actually working in the field and at the time for a Midland competitor. He recommended we buy this MXT105 as neither of us have federal licenses to transmit higher power/broadband radios. He has a fairly large and feature rich radio (Kenwood) and said he was…

Ideal for off-road columns. Super easy installation.

I'm tired of putting batteries in my cheap FRS walkie-talkies every time I go out with my buddies, not to mention the frequent noise and so-so clarity. This radio has proven its worth, even considering the cost of the FCC license required to operate. It works great with the standard cheap FRS handhelds that everyone uses (on channels 1-6 and 15-22). The sound quality is excellent, the speaker is loud and clear. Everyone hears me very well. I no longer get the occasional bursts of fuzzy noise my
