Description of ๐Ÿ”Š Monoprice 8 Inch 60-Watt Powered Subwoofer with Auto-On Function - Ideal for Studio and Home Theater - Black

This is an 8" powered subwoofer capable of producing 60 watts (RMS) output. The subwoofer has a frequency response range of 50 to 250 Hz with a lowpass crossover filter, which can be adjusted from 50 to 150 Hz. Gain and frequency knobs on the control panel allow you to adjust the crossover filter and the power output for the optimum blend and balance of bass output with your stereo or surround speakers. The subwoofer has multiple input options, which allow it to be used with any existing stereo or 5.1 (or greater) amplifier system. For each input there is a corresponding output. High-level inputs accept a full-range signal from the amplifier's stereo speaker outputs. When connecting the unit as part of a 5.1 system, these would be taken off the Front Left and Front Right outputs in parallel to the standard pair of front speakers. The subwoofer provides its own power and includes impedance matching circuitry, so this will not reduce the power output to the front speakers or affect the overall impedance load on the amplifier. Additionally, the subwoofer has a set of right/left Line Level inputs. If using a standard stereo system, without a special subwoofer output, you can connect these to the left and right line level outputs on the amp. The subwoofer will then combine the signals to process the mono bass signal it needs to drive the speaker. If you are using an amplifier with a single mono subwoofer line level output, simply use an RCA "Y" cable to split the output and send it to the two line level inputs on the subwoofer. The subwoofer is housed in an attractive black wood cabinet that measures 13.75" x 11.75" x 11.75" (H x W x D). The driver and a 2 3/4" sound port are located on the front, covered by a black cloth speaker grill.

Dirty bass, terrible sound quality for music

I don't understand the high reviews of this woofer. It sounded okay for movies, but it was terrible for music. The bass was muddy and produced a horribly boomy sound even at less than half volume on the amp and receiver. I sent it back because it's complete junk. Replace it with the Elac 8 for the same price and get twice the volume with incredible clarity.

Pros
  • Quick replacement
Cons
  • Almost everything is there

Works for me in home audio

For our needs this is the perfect subwoofer. We needed something small that we could just toss in the closet under the TV in our living room. While I wouldn't compare it to the much larger Klipsch in my theater room, it does a great job, especially on those nights when our 'television' involves a lot of music. I give it 5 stars for its value and how it serves its purpose. We have to take it out of the case when we use it, otherwise there's a lot of vibration, but doesn't the bass do that?

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Low maintenance

The punch is strong but you have to get it rolling

50Hz is too high for a subwoofer in my opinion, but with my computer I can tune it to the lowest frequency which is 31Hz. This makes it swing like a rubber slide on a kangaroo jumping on a trampoline. And once you do that the bass is amazing it doesn't matter what gain my pc has at half volume so it's very nice. Cons: The frequency is a bit high, at least for my taste. But it's 8 inches. Pros: You can push the input frequency down and it won't stutter or distort. And he rocks and rolls hardโ€ฆ

Works pretty well. decent sound. decent price.

The subwoofer works well, it's nice that it has a frequency response scale. Monoprice makes some pretty good stuff at a really good price. Sound quality is pretty tight, maybe a little boom instead of a tight smack, but not by much. Again, this is one of the cheapest entry-level subwoofers you can get, so keep that in mind. As with everything on the Monoprice, function overrides form, the finish is pretty good but could do with better, but to keep the great-sounding hardware cheap I agree withโ€ฆ

A massive bang from this subwoofer.

The price used to be a little higher. Reduced and decided to buy based on satisfaction from customer reviews and watching some YouTube videos of this particular subwoofer. I also have a Polk Audio PSW10 subwoofer. I don't really know much about audio. According to some labeled "audiophiles," having and listening to two or more different subwoofers is not a good idea. You were right. After an hour of tweaking, tweaking, and moving, I finally got a strong bass kick and punch. Without the help ofโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Useful not only for the intended purpose

  • Negative is available

Pleasantly surprised!

When ordering, I had some doubts about the low price and meager qualities of this subwoofer. But this is for a surround sound system I installed in our RV and I was limited in both budget and the physical size of the subwoofer. The subwoofer had to be 12 inches square or smaller to fit where it needed to fit. It didn't leave me much choice. I was very concerned that the amp might not be enough, even though I didn't need a lot of bass for this system. Well, so far I'm very impressed. Itโ€ฆ
