Universal shock absorbers, universal use, universal price

With some creative modifications I was able to install them on the back of my 2000 Honda Insight. The OEM shocks were so outdated that at first you'd think someone had replaced my rear tires with frogs' legs. Honda charged $188 for the rear shock for new. Now when you start paying that much to keep an economical car on the road (don't get me started on batteries), take "Economy" from "Economy Car". Those Monroe shocks did the trick for a ridiculous fraction of what they might have cost. How doโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Replacement parts
Cons
  • Protection

Purchased to understand Gen 1 and installed following instructions on forum www.insightcentral.com. This is a pretty simple layout. This shock absorber is designed for something like an old VW bus but with modifications to fit a newer car at a fraction of the cost of HOnda parts. Everything seems fine. Better than the old ones that no longer existed. I wish it was a little stiffer but for the price I think it's ok for regular use. Definitely not a performance product, but a worthy replacementโ€ฆ

Bought for 2001 Honda Insight

I am trying these shocks as a replacement for my stock rear shocks. Fast shipping and great price. Sizing is perfect for length and travel, but the "crossbarโ€ that sits on top of the stock shock is large and doesn't slide easily into the top lug hole on this shock. It's a big project and I shouldn't be saving money to replace the Honda Insight. After I removed the stock shocks they weren't too bad and still worked very well so I decided to keep them and replace them with the $100 Daewoo Heavyโ€ฆ
