2001 Xterra in shocks, struts and suspension

Moog makes good ball joints and has a grease fitting. But the lower arm somehow blocks the fitting so fitting a grease gun might not be an option depending on configuration.

Fits well Durability will show over time

Application is on an older Nissan Xterra and the Frontiers part fits fine, the guy saying grease nipples aren't available is wrong, it fits fine but you better have a BJ press because a nut won't sits properly.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Other interesting options are available.

Fixed squeaky ball joints.

The ball joints were fine but after a year they started to creak like others said. There is an oiler, but it is almost hidden and inaccessible. I replaced both with metric 90 degree mirrors and lubricated them. No more squeaking. Could have been designed better.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model

ball joints! fits shocks, struts and suspension

This fits my 2000 Nissan Xterra well. It fit well and the bolt was a good height. We managed to turn the bolt and put the cotter pin back in place. They didn't stock a top ball joint for the MOOG so I went with the Deeza and it wasn't as good. It fits, but the bolt was short and had trouble holding onto the socket.

Disappointing Results

I installed new Moog lowering kits on both sides of my 2001 XTerra 4x4 in July 2012 and now in February 2014 one of the two sides is already cracked and leaking and will need to be replaced soon. It's a tedious job and I didn't intend to repeat it anytime soon. During that time I drove my car 15,000 miles and rode it on moderate terrain for about 2 weeks. Genuine Nissan parts lasted almost a decade and covered 120,000 miles with many more years of similar use. When I bought them, Moogs were the

Moog or not Moog

I bought these lower ball joints (and matching tops) for my 2001 Xterra SE. They were easy to install, but I was surprised that they came pre-packaged (no Zerk). The top had mirrors for lubrication. At the same time, I swapped out the control levers. Leveled the SUV and all was well for about three weeks. A loud creak was heard and determined to be coming from the front. I consulted with a certified mechanic and other reputable sources and it was ultimately determined that the lower ball joints

Doesn't fit Xterra

If you buy them for Xterra 2000-2004, they won't work out of the box. The included grease fitting is straight, but our application requires a 90 degree angle. And don't think you can just install them and forget about greasing - they don't come pre-lubricated. This leads to a rapid failure. Go to an auto shop and buy some 90 degree Zerks and install them before you press in the BJ because if the Zerk strips the threads you will have to take it apart again. One of these BJs was sent to me…
