Rim protectors have been used on several sports bike wheels to prevent scratches. This delayed the process considerably. Wheels that already had scratches or missing paint were not used as the scratches were minimal with good tire fitting and maintenance.

I bought these to possibly prevent my rims from getting scratched on the motorcycle tire and they do work as intended. They are placed on the rims at the pivot point of the mount where it meets the rim and add a layer of protection against the mount. They tend to fly out when the tire comes off, but they protect the rim.

They work better than rubber rim protectors. They can pop out if you start overtightening the mounts (that's why I gave them 4 stars). You can move them along the rim better than rubber protectors. Palstick provides rim protection. I wish I had bought them sooner. I used rubber protectors and the mounts wore out and damaged the surface of the rim before I knew it. They work without damage, which is why I bought them.

I bought these to replace a broken spoke on my 17" Supermoto wheelset. Even with a lot of soapy water I could still damage them after the first use. My tire caliper/spoon bit through one. Upon closer inspection my rim had some new nicks despite use. For some reason I can't upload photos to this review. My tires didn't make much effort so I don't know why they didn't perform better . Of course, if I hadn't used them, there would have been a lot more damage.

These connectors work well but have a tendency to pop out if you're not careful (this has more to do with the operator than the shields themselves). They also yield relatively well to deformations, although it is not yet clear whether this is a plus or a minus. They worked at first taking the first bite or two with tire spoons but soon became tiresome. The edge/crease on them is very shallow and they don't fit the rim perfectly (at least for me in the Himalayas) so I didn't even want to use them. In order for them to sit well, you have to press them into the rim with a lot of force, then they get stuck on the wheel when you pry open the tire with them. The picture shows two shields, but it doesn't really matter. Perhaps they are only shown in front and behind. In fact, two shields came with one order. Ordered two, looked for two, got four. It is in order. The magic number of protectors needed is usually three. I have MP-0357 wheel protectors (with attached rope). They are somewhat bulky and often a bit difficult to work with, especially with cast wheels. They are noticeably thinner, although NOT as thin as I had hoped. They are 5 inches wide.
