🔧 Motive Products - 1100 European Master Cylinder Adapter: Convenient and Versatile Solution for European Car Maintenance Review

This product did an excellent job bleeding the clutch on my 1994 F-250 with ZF5. Nowhere on the Motive website did it say this would work for my application, but after measuring the cap on my clutch master cylinder I concluded that this adapter would be what I needed. It works great and has made bleeding my clutch a lot easier.

I bought this to bleed an engine I already had from working on old Volkswagens and it worked great for flushing the brake fluid in our 2010 Volvo XC 90 With this bleeder I was able to completely drain the brake fluid in our Volvo in less than 20 minutes.

It fits and works well but the price is very high. (Maybe around $3 for parts.) Note that this cap fits both the master cylinder and coolant reservoir on a Volvo 240/740/940. In addition to bleeding the brakes as intended, you can also use it to make a coolant pressure gauge. I recommend removing the zip ties as soon as possible because one day when the vinyl tubing needs replacing you won't have to fight them to get the job done.

If you own a 2014 Focus, you know Ford screwed it up by putting the master cylinder under the hood. This makes the brake fluid reservoir practically inaccessible. I got the adapter working but it took a bit of effort. The adapter must be connected to the hose at right angles. With a direct connection, the hose between the housing and the brake fluid reservoir is almost kinked. I'll buy a proper hose connector, cut a hole and make a better adapter.

Overpriced for what it is. I was able to use my portable air tank instead of the overpriced pump this company sells. With an air coupling on the tank hose and an air connection on the adapter, it has the same effect as the more expensive adapter, ie it can be rotated. I then simply added some air pressure to the tank and held it there for the entire bleed process. I modified a small garden sprayer to bleed the brakes under pressure. I've tried various ways to close off the reservoir on my BMW and then apply pressure, but since it's a metric thread I was able to seal it properly, resulting in leaks and brake fluid everywhere. I then decided to disassemble and order this adapter. Now I regret not wasting my time tweaking something cheaply.
