Glove boxes are repairable

I didn't know my glove box was repairable until I found this handle and watched a video on how to do it. I appreciate that someone fixed it but everyone I asked said the entire glove box needed replacing but that was very expensive. So I just didn't use the glove box for a few years until one day I found this handle so I decided to give it a try, now everything works like new.

Some skill required

This is definitely a direct replacement, however drilling out the rivets and removing any 'old rivets' from the bodywork is of paramount importance to get the finished product. While I've done some research and know what I'm getting into, I would argue that the manufacturer really needs to improve their game and add some guidance and advice. I ended up riveting mine back on as the screws didn't hold up as well as I'd like. Like new now, let's see how long it lasts!

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities

  • Minor issues

Great interior solution

Great affordable option for not having to replace the entire glove box! Fits perfectly and works perfectly. Here are my installation notes to help others: - You will need to drill out some rivets to separate the glove box. After the rivets are drilled/broken, the loose parts will dangle inward and rattle. I got them out by drilling some 1/2" holes in strategic corners that won't be visible after assembly. Shake broken rivets out of those drilled holes.

  • Great for me

perfect fit now I have the glove box back

Following another reviewer's instructions you will need to drill out the rivets, be careful not to enlarge the holes. Dead rivets fall into the door so you have to drill a hole to shake them out, similar to a guitar pick. Assembly was easy, the new part fitted perfectly, it took about 45 minutes to get the box out of the car and then put it back together. The wife is happy about the glove compartment that can be opened. Saved over $200 on a dealer repair attempt.

Pros
  • GOLS certified

  • Drilling out the packaging

Installation is not for beginners.

Great product but installing in the glove box is not for beginners. You will need to drill out the original rivets, being careful not to go through the front of the cover. Then you need to insert the remaining rivets into the glove box lid. If you don't want them to rattle, cut a small hole in the back of the lid (I saw the bottom right corner from the back) to pull the pieces out. Cover the window with black tape and once you've replaced the inner coating you won't see it again. Luckily, the…

Works great with a little modification and adjustment

First of all I am very happy that this part is available. Of course, I could go to Pic N Pull to look for a used glove box door, have it removed, etc. Being able to order one even if it's $25 was handy. The Pic N Pull was about $19 plus gas and time and if you can find the same color etc. Second, the glove box door should be removed from the dash by removing a couple of 7mm screws and drilling a hole. a few rivets. YouTube videos are very helpful here. Also, the inner and outer doors must be…

Once you buy this part? before installation? you're on your own.

The latch looks like a direct replacement for the factory GM crap. I emailed Dorman Motor Products 2 weeks before ordering this lock for possible instructions, correct? link to the video. I haven't received anything from them yet. I ordered a replacement part because I figured there would definitely be instructions in the replacement part box (LMFAO). I'm on my own again. Eventually I called Dorman and the tech said I was an idiot because I couldn't read minds. It's not that I can't/can't…
