I wanted to practice smoothing the water stone. So I started using the inhomogeneous side first. Big mistake. My stone was severely hollow after only about 30 seconds. So I switched to the other side of this product (the completely flat side) and was able to properly smooth the stone. This can work a little better if the stone to be smoothed is shorter than the corrector. I took this item to straighten a severely curved combination stone. It worked, but it wasn't the best product for the job. it's so very small, and it was broken in half, so it's even smaller. I can't recommend this product for stone leveling in general, but it does a good job of leveling a certain high angle. If you have a very small stone, you should be fine. For regular leveling of regular sized rocks I would suggest using a different product. I'd also like to add that after trying to level 1

Contrary to some other reviews on this product, mine arrived in perfect condition, not broken at all. I used it to smooth a 1000/6000 stone and it worked great. I didn't develop any sunken parts of the stone as reported in other reviews. This leads me to believe that this was a technique used by others (though I'm not trying to criticize them here).
