So my mother uses a Dell Inspiron 660 with a DW1506 wireless card running an Atheros ABGN 2.4GHz chipset. Older cars could barely pick up a Wi-Fi signal from the room, and being limited to just the 2.4GHz band limited speeds. Upgrading to an Intel ABGN/AC 2.4 and 5GHz card improved the wireless connection to the point where I no longer have to use a powerline system configured to connect to the internet.
