Works most of the time

Used to connect my Surface Pro 7 to my external monitor and ethernet. Sometimes the video disappears completely and I have to disconnect and reconnect to get it back. The Ethernet speed test looks fine, but the behavior is sometimes more laggy than when using WiFi, which doesn't make sense to me. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'm not getting the performance I expected from this device.

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Reliable

Limited 4k60, ongoing USB-C bin fire

If your laptop is over a year old, 4k60 won't work. (This Surface Go only works with 4k30) Displayport 1.2 Alternate Mode over USB-C only supports 4k60 single function or with HDMI/USB2 data adapters. None of the three laptops I tested this with have dp1.4, so they only support 4k30 with this adapter. Although they all state that they support 4k60 and it will be transmitted through a Club3d C to HDMI dongle function. Ethernet, VGA and a USB-A mouse work great with it.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Savior! - Networking Products

I have a Surface X with limited ports (ie only USB-C). I have a Surface Dock 2 that I have used for multiple USB (a/c) and HDMI connections to multiple monitors and external drives. Unfortunately, I didn't have access to the Surface Dock 2 and was stuck, so I ordered it because I didn't want to spend another $100 on top of the visitor center. I mainly use it to connect to external USB-A ports when needed (I've used the full size the whole time with no issues). I have not tried any VGA or…

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Useless features

High pitched whistle

I ordered this because it sounds incredible in theory - perfect for travel and with the HDMI connection I was looking for the most. For some reason, other Surface docks don't have an HDMI port. However, as soon as I connected it to my computer, I heard this high-pitched coil noise coming from the hub. I thought I could ignore it but it was very loud and only got amplified when I was streaming video on my second monitor. I ordered a replacement, thinking it might just be a one-time defective…

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful

Did exactly what I needed. Give my laptop a second monitor. If I'm using a Surface Laptop 3, I'm sure it will connect without any issues. This greatly simplifies the completion of schoolwork and research. I still have a few ports to connect and if I want to unplug and take my laptop with me I can do that. Of course I'm hiding in place now, but you get the picture. My only concern is that sometimes the second monitor just turns on and loses connection to the hub and I have to manually disconnect

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
