I love this heater! in aquarium heaters

I was looking for an adjustable heater that could be hidden in my 6 gallon Fluval Edge. This Nicrew heater is perfect! I've been using it for a few weeks now and it's stable. I don't usually buy stuff without some good reviews, but I'm glad I took the risk! I order a second heater for another tank.

Pros
  • Thin tubular type and subtle color makes it easy to hide heater rod without disturbing fish
Cons
  • dim

Precise, easy to adjust

I have returned two Eheim heaters. They stayed at 78 out of the box but they were very difficult to tune and I honestly could get them to tune even lower and then everything seemed to go out of calibration. I've ventured a pair of these Nicrews, the 100w for the 20g and the 200w for the 29g. I've only had them for a month and am very happy with them. I have several Nicrew flashlights and they have been great too.

Pros
  • Strong suction cups make installation and placement easy and keep the aquarium heater running smoothly
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Good value for money

The only thing I'm not sure about is the accuracy. We had a cool summer/spring. I needed a heater to raise the temperature to a temperature high enough to encourage beneficial bacteria to develop in cooler weather. It took the thermostat three days, so to speak, to find its equilibrium. It appears to run 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the dial on the switch. **NOTE: The temperature wheel will NOT light up and will not be the same color as shown in the picture. Just straight black plasticโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Uniform heating and high heat transfer efficiency will keep your fish warm
Cons
  • Some cons

Temperature sensors are not accurate

Bought two for 75 gallons to evenly heat tank. I like Nicrew headlights and thought they were decent. I just had to make an aquatop like my other tanks. I did both of these adjustments overnight in the 80's and found that the temp inside the tank is about 73.74 when I place the thermometer probe next to the heating element. They are green which means they are not on a heating cycle and the water temperature is as the documentation says it is set. They're aesthetically pleasing, but as far as Iโ€ฆ

Pros
  • A small gauge in the heater that shows the operating status. Light changes from red to green when set temperature is reached
Cons
  • too dim
