Return to the classics.

I have many Nikon DSLRs, including full frame DSLRs. I kept buying new models and succumbing to advertising for the same megapixel quality only to upload larger files to my computer's cluttered hard drive, but no better than my older models. New D300 in the box and when I realized I could get this camera for just over half the price I spontaneously grabbed one. This was a big disappointment on my part. I've had this camera for a month now and have taken several thousand pictures. Metering in…

The camera itself is very powerful and can be a great long term spare

I bought this camera to replace my Nikon d80. This is a solid digital SLR camera. The whole frame is metal and solid, I'm sure it can take a few falls although I never tested it. It is also sealed for weather protection. Another feature that I haven't tested but I've used it in sandy and foggy environments like the beach with small issues. It can take pictures very quickly if the speed of your memory card allows it. I've been told that if you add a battery to this camera, it will capture one…

D300s or D90 or D700

D300s bought a few months ago. I like it. I love how it works and I get great shots. I had a choice between the D90 and this model, but what made me go for the more expensive camera was the full compatibility with older Nikon lenses. I have several old lenses, even an AI converter, and it works great with them. You can store all your old lenses (AI or AIS) in its memory and it will fully work with those lenses - except for autofocus of course. Old autofocus lenses work 100%. Unless you have…

Great upgrade from D300

So I bought this camera to upgrade my D300. I've been in love with the D300 since I had it, even when I used the D3 in college. I'll leave the review of the original and just talk about the D300s. The camera is amazingly built, even better than the original, and that's saying a lot. everything about him gives me confidence that I will keep him. Image quality is phenomenal, with no noise, amazing dynamic range and an excellent ability to recover shadows and highlights in RAW files. The SD card…

A quantum leap for photography

Started with D40. Obviously there's no performance comparison between the two, so let me get down to functionality. Firstly, one of the things that drove me nuts about the D40 was having to navigate the menus to change key settings like meter, AF type, AF method. With the D300s these settings are now made with a switch on the camera body, which is exactly what I was looking for in my next camera. And that's the main difference between the D300 and simpler proposals. I didn't use the presets for

Why did I wait so long to buy this camera!?

I bought a Nikon D90 from Revain in October 2009. It was an improvement over the Nikon D50. I thought the D90 would meet my needs, but it lacked the focusing speed and ability to satisfy my growing desire for HDR photography. I finally broke down and bought the D300 when I snagged it for $1,449 from Revain during a window short sale. God I'm glad I broke down and bought this camera! The D90 is no match for this camera, despite sharing many of the same components. One of my favorite features is…

Excellent mid-range professional camera

In my opinion, the easiest way to describe a camera's functional success is to understand its use and experience as a photographer. So, first of all, I would like to mention that I am a part-time professional photographer. I mainly photograph weddings, but I also do portraits and wildlife photography. I have a full time job and enjoy photography in my free time as a source of creative expression as well as a bonus salary. Now to the camera. This is the third Nikon DSLR I own. Despite doubts…

Nikon D300s 12MP - camera and photo

After a long research I switched from Nikon D70s to D300s. I was very happy with the D70s but needed more pixels for the large prints I prefer (13x19+). I agree with many pros who have pointed out that if you're producing 8x10 you don't need more than 8MP. or even full frame 11 x 14 in most cases. If you go beyond this print size or drastically crop to 11x14, then you need more pixels. prosumer category. This shouldn't be your first camera. If you shoot mostly on automatic or like…
