A valuable purchase, some advantages!

I took D40 for an old lady :). I chose between it and 60 mm for a long time - in the end I settled on 85 and am glad. I don’t plan to take Full Frame in the near future, and I’m just learning photography, so it’s just right for me. I am sure that specialists with straight arms will reveal the potential of this kid to the fullest. A tripod and a ring flash would be a cool addition, but just a tripod is fine. If without it, then we train to hold our breath and not shake like an aspen leaf. If you

Pros
  • Does its job well Fast autofocus beautiful blur
Cons
  • The lens alone is not enough for macro photography - this is not a minus, more below

Definitely destined to become my favorite lens.

I will not try to add anything to the technical questions that have been carefully and, in my opinion, accurately stated in other reviews. I love the versatility of this lens. It is almost considered a "lens for all cases". My main photographic interest is in what most would call nature photography. I enjoy walking and hoping to find items ranging from tiny insects to large plants and animals. Yes, I have a micro lens that allows me to get close and sometimes I carry around my D7000 with a…

Good gave for the value.

Completely satisfied with the purchase. The lens needs some adjustment, but that's fine and the quality of the resulting photos more than met my expectations. I've been using this lens intermittently for a little over 3 months. Mainly for micro shooting as I understand it, I can also use it for good portrait shots. I'm not tired of it yet. I found it easy to use and of good quality. I would recommend it to those like me who are just starting to do more micrographs and don't want to spend a lot…

Nikon 85mm AF-S DX VR Micro Lens (Macro)

I'm on my third Nikon DX format DSLR now and have decided after over 30 years of being mostly amateurs (medium format weddings for years to photograph). try macro photography. Firstly, in case you don't know, this lens is only for the DX format, which has a slightly smaller sensor than the FX format. (and everyone goes "Wow!") I know a lot of people will prefer the more popular (and heavier and much more expensive) 105mm or 60mm lenses because they are f2.8 lenses, but keep this in mind If…

One of the best lenses for Nikon

I use this lens on my Nikon D-5000. Bought to photograph the praying mantis that lives among the plants in our garden. The autofocus is surprisingly quick and quiet, and the vibration reduction gives me 3-4 stops. When photographing a praying mantis, I don't use autofocus most of the time; Instead, I manually focus to the closest distance, then lean forward (using the monopod to eliminate vertical and lateral movement) until the subject is in sharp focus. Works like a charm but takes some…

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Solid wearable lens with good ergonomics and IQ!

Let me start by saying that I have owned several Nikon DX cameras (currently d60, d200, d90) and have owned and used many macro/micro lenses. I'm an advanced hobbyist who is occasionally (non-commercially) compensated for my work, and macro/close-up focus lenses have proven to be my niche of choice. I owned and used them extensively; Tokina 100mm 2.8 af-d, Nikon 55mm 3.5, Nikon 105mm 4, Nikon 28-105mm 3.5-4.5 (1:2), Vivitar Series 1 90mm 2.5, Vivitar 55mm 2.8 and currently Nikon 85mm 3.5 VR. I…

Pros
  • Very good value for money
