Robust option for server motherboards

I bought them to run on a dual socket ATX board (not SSI-CEB and not even "E-ATX") LGA2011-3, X10DRL -i from Supermicro to use. I contacted Noctua to inquire about the options and they gave me this and one other (92mm fan) option. They even informed me that the dual 92mm fans can only work front to back, not top to bottom. I figured a larger single fan would be close by. thermal performance (maybe better) and definitely quieter than 2x92mm. Assembly was very easy, I had an old NH-D14 that I…

  • Easy to use

5 Stars Computers & Accessories

I bought this to replace a cheaper general purpose cooler for my Haswell 5820 CPU overclocked to 4.2GHz. I encode some HD video and when all 12 cores are used at 100%, the core temperature never exceeded 70C. I thought it was a bit high so I lowered the frequency to 4.0GHz and it stays at around 67C. • Virtually no fan noise. It's quite a large cooler, and instead of having a horizontal orientation, which would likely cause it to partially block a few memory slots, it sits vertically on top of…

but still very quiet. They too do an excellent job.

These things are monstrous but super quiet at the same time. They also do an excellent job of cooling my dual Xeon processors. The only difficulty I had with them is this: I had to cut a hole in the top of my 4U server's lid to get some free space for them once they were installed on the CPU. I'm not sure if that's because the motherboard sits higher in my case than others. The case is probably to blame for this, but I would like to point out that you should double check the headroom before…

Great for square ILMs, narrow ILMs not so good.

People love to be amazed at how good the Noctua mounting system is. However, after this cooler I can fully confirm that I don't understand the hype at all. I had to cut the springs to fit the screws into the mounting holes on the slim ILM LGA2011 board. This made this thing an absolute pain to install in the back. A subjectively beautiful and objectively effective cooler, but the hardware ruined it.

Hush and quiet about computers and accessories

I got this to replace my Dynatron CPU cooler. My choices are very limited as I have a narrow type ILM MOBO. Dynatron would be ideal as it is shorter. Little did I know the noise level of the Dynatron would drive me crazy. I know Noctua and how quiet they are. The only issue I have with this Noctua cooler is the height. After replacing my case, this CPU cooler is perfect. The noise level is fantastic; Comparison of day and night with Dynatron. Highly recommended. My data: Intel Xeon E5-2658v3…

Typical Noctua quality with minor flaws

This review relates to the Noctua NH-U12DX i4, the 120mm version of the Noctua NH-U__S range of workstation/server radiators. A 90mm version (NH-U9DX i4) is also available. The NH-U12DX i4 comes in a box ready to be mounted on a standard ILM-LGA2011 square base, but has interchangeable brackets for mounting on a narrow ILM-LGA2011 base. I bought this product because of its close compatibility with ILM. This product comes in a plain OEM-style brown cardboard box, as opposed to the retail…

  • There's something to it

Silent Cooling - Internal Components

I have a Xeon x5690 so I figured this would be what I need. It turns out that my Asus P6T6 WS Revolution uses an i7 lga1366 backplate instead of a Xeon backplate. That means I should have received the NH-D14 model instead. Luckily I bought an NM-i3 mounting kit from this site for less than $10 and was able to install it. I also bought a second fan separately to get a push-pull configuration and my temperature is around 38C at idle and around 50C at full load (3dmark and Cinebench 5 times…

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Short Manual
