I bought this to replace a cheaper general purpose cooler for my Haswell 5820 CPU overclocked to 4.2GHz. I encode some HD video and when all 12 cores are used at 100%, the core temperature never exceeded 70C. These things are monstrous but super quiet at the same time. They also do an excellent job of cooling my dual Xeon processors. The only difficulty I had with them is this: I had to cut a hole in the top of my 4U server's lid to get some free space for them once they were installed on the CPU. People love to be amazed at how good the Noctua mounting system is. However, after this cooler I can fully confirm that I don't understand the hype at all. I had to cut the springs to fit the screws into the mounting holes on the slim ILM LGA2011 board. This made this thing an absolute pain to install in the back. A subjectively beautiful and objectively effective cooler, but the hardware ruined it.

I got this to replace my Dynatron CPU cooler. My choices are very limited as I have a narrow type ILM MOBO. Dynatron would be ideal as it is shorter. Little did I know the noise level of the Dynatron would drive me crazy. I know Noctua and how quiet they are. The only issue I have with this Noctua cooler is the height.
