Norpro 865 Master Apple Potato Slicer Review

Pros: The suction cup works well and keeps the apples secure throughout the process. Spiral slices come out fairly evenly. Disadvantages: The cleaning function works unevenly. It will peel off some of the skin if it wants to, but not all, even after a few adjustments. I only use it as a slicer but that might be more trouble than it's worth as I have to peel the skin before slicing. The grip also loosens about every 5th apple.

We bought ours to help me process the large batch of pears we process from our pear tree each fall. Not only does this work well, but it also reduces processing time. at 2/3 and we love using it. We've affectionately called it Pear Master, and it really is the best money we've spent making it easy to make the canned pear chunks and pear sauce we eat year-round. Thanks to the time saved with this little gadget, we were able to save more than double compared to last year.

I used it straight out of the box. I barely peeled the skin, just cut the core out of half of the apple. So I decided to read the instructions and the troubleshooting guide. He suggested that I should adjust the core and the cleaner. I did it. It didn't help, it got worse! The peeler either cut half an inch and kept going deeper or didn't peel at all. As a Norpro product I wasn't concerned about quality or functionality. Not correct! The blade is too sharp for the cutting width. Neither one nor the other can be adjusted. Either you adjust the blade so that at least 1/4+ of the apple is thrown out when you cut it (so about 1/2 inch in diameter is lost), or each slice has a strip of peel on either side of the cut! ... incredibly wasteful or leaves bits of skin on each slice.
