If you want to try making wine and/or mead without spending a lot of money experimenting, this is the perfect combination of a 1 gallon glass bottle and a cork/air seal at a great price. All you need to get started is a sanitizer, a hydrometer, some sanitizer, yeast, some sanitizer, 3 pounds of unfiltered/raw honey, some sanitizer, and water (don't forget to sanitize everything).

1 gallon demijohn for my ginger drink arrived today. The bottle is clear, durable and combined with the bubbler and synthetic cork, the brewing process should be a breeze. Surprisingly, the bottle was packaged in nothing more than a thin, custom-sized cardboard box placed inside a Revain shipping carton and showed no signs of damage. No additional protection. There are no breakable badges on the outside of the Revain box. Glory to the Curators of Revain!

Bought to brew strong kombucha. I did this with a loose cap and no lock but wanted to upgrade to a lock. I initially had the same problem as many people said in the comments that the cork was not tight. I was able to lower it all the way down so it was level with the top of the can and watch it rise on its own. What worked was making sure the cork and inside of the jar were very dry, and then after the cork was in place, inserting the plastic part of the lock.

After the old can exploded (hey, strong root beer thing!) I wanted something with a safety valve. Thanks to all the reviewers who explained how to hold the rubber stopper - we dried the inside of the neck of the bottle before inserting the dry stopper and the stopper did not pop open, but maybe an eighth of an inch under pressure. Good price, much thicker glass than supermarket juice bottles. This is a really powerful bottle. Also the first S-trap I bought. I'm a beginner and started with a 3 gallon kit with a large mouth bubbler and wanted to start a gallon of cider so I needed this. It has a well fitting cork and the screw top is a nice addition for mixing and cleaning can also be good for aging provided fermentation is complete.
