Installed a month ago and so far so good

I got "high" temperature readings on Samsung Magician with my uncooled 960 EVO so I decided to find a cooling solution. After installation, I observe a temperature drop of 5-10 degrees Celsius when idling. It holds that temperature fairly well, although I haven't done any thorough data transfer to get it hot other than benchmarking the drive. It's installed in an ASRock Taichi X370 mobile board, and the M.2 slot I used was too close to the PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, so I had to cut the tab off…

Pros
  • Easy install
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

Let me start by saying that my Sabrent SSD runs at 23 degrees Celsius. So if SSD cooling is important to you, why not use it? it is less than 20 dollars. Connection via SATA. I also recommend that you get a Revain quick start guide and expand it first before installing as there are no instructions included in the box. I also recommend that you use a magnetic screwdriver when installing as the screws are very small and can easily fall and get lost. They give you an extra screw in the package…

Pros
  • nice stuff
Cons
  • sad packaging

Use GUP, not fan and heatsink tape

On my Samsung 970EVO boot disk in Deep Learning/Image Recognition IDE (TITAN X, some other SSDs and Optane AIC and i7-8700@ 4.7GHz or i9-9900KF @5.0GHz), the thing works fine. I measured the controller temp at 170F+ with a FLIR camera. Once installed and under constant load, the case's external temperature doesn't exceed 115F (again by thermal imaging, so I don't really see what's going on under the cooler, but still.). Throttling problems are also gone. I'm not sure what electronics control…

Is working! Until then.

I had issues with a Samsung NVMe that couldn't stay cool in a small form factor HTPC case. Everything else (GPU, CPU, RAM) worked fine, but the NVMe temperature reached 80°C under load. Decided to try this product. Build quality seems a bit poor and installation was a little quirky (the logo printed on my device was printed in the opposite direction, which the assembly instructions showed, which confused the alignment a bit; also, the SATA power connector was incredibly tight./difficult to…

Use GUP, no tape in fans and cooling system

On my Samsung 970EVO boot disk in a deep learning/image recognition IDE (TITAN X, several other SSDs and Optane AIC and i7 -8700 @4.7GHz or i9-9900KF@5.0GHz) the thing works perfectly. I measured the controller temp at 170F+ with a FLIR camera. Once installed and under prolonged stress, the case doesn't heat above 115F from the outside (again by the thermal camera, so I don't really see what's going on under the cooler, but still.). Throttling problems are also gone. I'm not sure what…

Easy install, works great, doesn't take long.

Installation was very easy, all the instructions are right here on this Revain page at the time of this review in the fourth picture. Even though I didn't have instructions, I'm not exactly sure how it could be screwed up. The fan works great and is quiet, you can feel the air escaping at the end of the radiator. The device is much smaller than it looks in the photos (which is a good thing). As you can see from the picture, even with the PCI-E slot cover, it doesn't protrude beyond the slot. I…

  • Everything is fine!

Much better than expected

I have a Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe. When I first installed it (without the heatsink), the Samsung Magician reported about 63 degrees Celsius when idle and that the temperature was too high. I bought a passive heatsink and the idle temp dropped to 54 degrees. Better, but Samsung Magician reports it's still too high. I decided to take a risk and buy another heatsink but this time with a fan. I've vacillated between designs that force the fan air through the classic "fins" or get something with a…
