Slide the caps onto the outer ring, press firmly and slide the rings onto the grips, put on the handlebars and tighten the clamp bolts. I have never lost a cap, never damaged a locking ring so badly that I couldn't reuse it or at least remove it. When I bought my Ruffian ODI grips at my local bike shop they sold them to me without the clips. The cranks were bought after they were taken off the bike they traded them for in the shop, so I bought them for next to nothing. The clamps work as they should, attaching to small grommets on the handles, leaving free to allow the handles to slide on and off the bars and when tightened prevent the handles or handle end caps from slipping off.
