Comes blunt in cutlery and knife accessories

Comes as a blunt butter knife. Must be sharpened before use. The blade needs to be cleaned, dried and oiled to keep it from rusting. It takes time to become razor sharp.

Cutlery and knife accessories will last a lifetime

Will rust if not wiped clean after each use. If you want a shiny knife to impress your hipster friends, this isn't it. If you want a lifetime knife that you can only dream of in stainless steel, buy this.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Not bad

The Ontario Co. butcher knife is wonderful!

Old Hickory Co. Ontario Butcher Knife works both in and out of the kitchen! With a classic look and a razor-sharp factory blade, it easily slices tomatoes, onions, potatoes and anything else we can throw at it!

Rusty after washing!

I am so disappointed. I bought this knife for my boyfriend who is a BBQ Pit Boys fan. They use Old Hick all the time. We used it once and it rusted overnight. We didn't soak it in water or anything like that! washed ONCE. Also, the handle wasn't very well made as it was already split and felt rough. Maybe it's just an imitation of the original, but I'm seriously angry. Too bad I can't return it for a refund!

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Great knife for the kitchen and dining room

Great knife. This knife is thicker than many other knives. It has become my workhorse in the kitchen. It holds an edge and is easy to sharpen. After 4 movements of the Work Sharp in each direction I had an edge so sharp I cut my finger wiping the blade. There is some discoloration on the blade. But I do not care. I grind things with him. Don't enter a beauty pageant. My only minor complaint is that the wooden handle had to be fitted with a boos lock. I try to wash and dry after each use. I put…

You get what you pay for

I bought an Old Hickory 7-7 inch butcher knife. Upon opening the packaging I noticed that it was factory cut. Let's just say QC put the work off. The grinding of the actual edge was so blunt that I could run it down my arm without damaging the skin. I don't know if the company's policy is to "roughly" sharpen knives and let the customer do the rest, but I wasn't impressed. I don't know if anyone had the same problem or if mine was just a coincidence. But I will be more careful with my purchases

Nice knife, needs work.

TL;DR This is a great knife, but it takes some work to reach its potential. This is a great knife for the money. 1095 carbon steel is not premium steel, but it has a strong sharp edge and is easy enough to repair. I expected it to be rough, and it lived up to those expectations (it's a $15 knife and they spent $15 time on it). Note that the scales on the handle were larger than the shaft, which can cause hot spots. This is easily fixed with a belt sander or even very carefully cut off most of…

Best general purpose kitchen knife I have

I bought an Ontario - Old Hickory 7-7 7" carbon steel butcher/kitchen knife in November and have been using it for a few months now and I can say This is my go-to for anything that requires slicing or carving. It cuts veggies easily and processes pork chicken and fish quickly. Carbon steel knife. It was fairly sharp and has a decent edge. I cut paper fairly easily considering Because it is carbon steel, you should hand wash this knife and dry it thoroughly after use, and if you really love your
