I really wanted this to be a great product and it comes very close. For towels and other cotton fabrics, it does the job just fine. They are soft and wrinkle free. I don't smell the smell. This is my first experience with drying balls, so I'm only comparing drying towels. I've been using complimentary and clear dryer sheets for years, although my husband likes a nice different kind of scent (sorry honey!). I've used them about 10 times with less washing. Then I put my white king size blanket in the dryer along with those balls. The blanket takes up the entire dryer and I have to do three to four drying cycles on Heavy Duty or a constant press to dry it completely.
