Not recommended for iMac internal hard drive

Remember if you plan to use this to upgrade your iMac internal hard drive: The screw holes on the sides of this basket are not the Screw hole the same size as the side of a standard 3.5" mechanical hard drive. So you can't move the iMac mounting bolts from the factory drive to this one. Well, it's not that easy anyway. Not wanting to wait for another cart to arrive, I used a medium-sized screw to expand the threads a bit, then applied high torque to drive the iMac's pins into the sides. It…

Do not buy! The holes on the bottom don't match the standard SSD

I have a Samsung SSD and the hole you use to attach the SSD to this case doesn't match! That means you only have two choices. Send it back or try drilling new holes (it's plastic) yourself. Now don't get confused. The case has holes and they are ok. But there are also holes at the bottom of the device and they don't fit, but are needed! You use the holes in the bottom to attach the drive to the case (and you must, or the drive will fall out of the case). Worse, the SATA port in mine didn't…

The threads are NOT the same as a standard 3.5 " hard drive

I really like this product and there is only one reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 and that is is due to the fact that the brass inserts for the screws don't have a 3.5" hard drive thread, they have a floppy/CD drive thread (thinner thread), which works in most cases, but if you build it into a device, the special one uses screws.(like me a 2009 21.5" iMac) you will have to find an alternative. The OEM Mac hard drive used an insulated screw on one side and a standoff on the other, both

Low Heat SDD Tray

When I received this product I didn't realize it was made of molded plastic - I should have read the description more carefully. I wanted it to be metal to better dissipate heat. In addition, the sides of the "fins" are completely closed, so NO AIRFLOW flows THROUGH the fins or the SSD; To be honest, I don't understand how the manufacturer can imagine that there is good airflow. Testing heat dissipation performance for a well-known military power company, I can assure you that any claim of good

Worked like clockwork

Converting an old PC to a FreeNAS box and looking for a better solution to keep a spare hard drive in the system instead of just hanging in the PC case. Bought this Orico HDD Bracket (B01LZWX6PD) together with StarTech 3.5 Hot Swap HDD Rack (HSB100SATBK). Installed a hot-swappable rack in the system, put the SSD in the bracket and plugged the whole thing into the PC with no problems. . At first I thought I might run into problems because the mounting bracket is a bit shorter than a "normal"…

Plastic -> Warm Up

I was in a hurry and bought this adapter for SSD. I bought it because it's an Orico product, assuming it's metal and an airflow photo. I was shocked it was plastic when it arrived but gave me reason to doubt it (previous experience with Orico products) and added an SSD for use in an Asustor NAS. The plate's temperature was around 35°C without load, and it reached 43°C under load. Ambient hard drives ranged from 29 (no load) to 34C (under load). Cutting out the plastic and drilling some holes…

Air fins are meaningless; but it's still a good product

as almost everyone has mentioned; the ventilation openings in these runners are blocked and made of insulating plastic; so there will not be a large heat dissipation factor. Interestingly, they made the radiator fins but closed them on the internal cavity. However, keep in mind that SSDs don't actually generate much heat. So as long as you don't use them on low airflow settings, you're fine. I bought two of these (for the price), one for MacPro and one for Windows PC. I had no problem with the…

PLASTIC! fits computer accessories and peripherals

Although this thing looks like a giant heatsink and says it has "excellent heat dissipation through the fins", IT IS PLASTIC. The plastic is an insulator, not a conductor, and the ribs do NOT go all the way through so they actually impede airflow. It's essentially a molded piece of plastic with built-in metal bolts to hold it in place. It fits perfectly and works well with SSDs that don't get very hot, but I wouldn't put a 15K SAS drive in it. No matter what the manufacturer says. for heat…

Pros
  • High quality construction
Cons
  • Low rate

While they appear to be very durable and of high quality (which is why they get 2 stars instead of 1), they are PLASTIC. it is given as ABS, about halfway (in the middle) of all other important information. Why heat fins? Is there a basic misconception about how heat transfer works in metal and is used to keep things cool? They should be as they are ABS but the manufacturer has gone to great lengths to shape the fins and all the extra time and expense that comes with it. My opinion (and that's…
