Awesome storage add on

I've looked at many different USB drive enclosures that will hold 4 or 5 drives and would NOT be a NAS or RAID solution. I just wanted to be able to plug in some of those random 3.5" drives and consolidate data onto a newer, larger drive. The package was delivered a full day early and I installed and used it in about 15 minutes. Literally plug and play with drives previously formatted in Windows. The data on the floppy disks is safe and I can copy the data from them as I please. Transferring…

The result is a Bricked Drive

I bought this to combine multiple external drives in one case. First thing I noticed is that the mechanism for installing drives seems a little flimsy and it's hard to tell if they're fully installed. After installing all 4 hard drives, everything worked fine until I restarted the computer on the second day. One of my drives was not showing up properly in File Explorer and I was prompted to format it. I used a recovery tool called TestDisk to try and recover my data, but after restarting the…

Should have listened - it's manure. . .

This is typical of the 9528U3 with two *NOT* RAID bays. . . .Well built and works great with a drive. Add a second one and it will take the first offline for a short time and then cause the second drive to be either invisible or not visible. Cold booting the chassis and a host system (Dish Hopper-3, based on Linux) running two drives in separate chassis on a hub with the same port made no difference. One each was fine, one in this case and one in the original was found, but both are no good for

Drives get damaged every time

I wish I had given this case so many chances it's now too late to send it back for a refund. It's nothing but trouble for me. The fact that it has positive reviews baffles me; The only possible explanation is that the quality is just very inconsistent and I (like many other reviewers here) got a bad one. I bought a 2 bay case to use for backing up my desktop computer. Insert two clean Western Digital hard drives, both working properly as internal drives. But I've had cases where backups would…

  • Poor instructions

Becomes unusable pretty quickly - falls asleep and can't wake up

That's why I bought it to work as a spare drive in the pool. Easily installed, processed large TB hard drives. Feels well built. Worked well when backing up and transferring files. The problem occurs after the case has been idle for about 10 minutes. As advertised, it "falls asleep". If hibernation means that two drives remain powered on, but none are active or available, and there is NO WAY to wake the drives or enclosure, then the only way to recover is to physically restart the computer…

RETURNED / Nice quiet JBOD case but beware

UPDATE 2/28/2020 I really wanted to keep this case but couldn't find the support I needed. No success. I replaced that with "OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad RAID Ready (JBOD) 4-Bay Storage Cabinet". will not hibernate HD. She confirmed that since the device was built as a RAID device, the device will continue polling it for activity as long as the host operating system doesn't disconnect the drives. After 3 days of continuous use I can confirm that. I need a JBOD package that I can use out of the…
