    Absolutely the best DJ gear

Easy to install and align even on non-detachable headed tonearms as the screws thread into the body. You get 99% performance as the Esoteric features Blue, Bronze and Black are controversial and mostly inaudible as traceability is the issue. Naked? Shibata? Come on ! snake oil! It's like a train, not a car. It either stays on the track or gets off the rails. The speed on the scale exceeds 3000 miles per hour. No ground vehicle compares. Mist tracking is clearly audible, sour humming, the thing…

    Good pickup.

My old Shure M97xE was long overdue to replace the needle. It worked pretty well and went through maybe 3 or 4 pins. However. Shure stopped making needles for him. It's time to buy new ones. Really not wanting to spend too much, over $100 for one, I opted for this Ortofon Red and Grado. I have no idea why I chose this one, but now that I've played about 20 albums with it, this module sounds really great! I spent time installing and configuring the cartridge by watching a few videos on Youtube…

    • Almost never

I bought this cartridge together with an Ortofon SH-4 head to replace my old Grado 2Z+ (20 years - not constant use). I recently rekindled my love for vinyl and decided to get out my Techniques 1200 MKII turntable and start playing my old and new vinyl. The grado was ok but I got a lot of distortion. Crackling at high frequencies, mostly. Once I set up Ortofon, WOW. the beautiful warm sounds were just crystal clear. This cartridge is perfect for me. It should be noted that it is much easier to…

    Great sound and inexpensive upgrade

Used with Sony PS-HX500 to transcode my collection to high bitrate PCM. Excellent sound quality, far better than Audio Technica's crappy cartridges. It's easy to set up and get started considering I've only had a plug and play style linear tracking player before. Some emphasis on the high frequencies. However, the brightness decreases after a few listens and overall the sound is very natural and lively. It's definitely better than the cartridge in my other turntable, and that was relatively…

Just buy it for DJ gear

If you look at this then you have a vinyl collection. If you have a vinyl collection, you're carrying around a lot of archaic recording media that somehow kept you off hot cars for 40 or 50 years. Mind you, a phone that fits in your pocket can easily hold ten times your vinyl collection! Then why do you need this huge pile of wax? It's simply because you love music. So why listen to your precious vinyl on a crappy kit? If you have a $20-30-40 pin and you're thinking, "Ah, I can understand the…

    Totally worth the $99 investment

Posted by Mark on Monica's account. I recently bought a 1980's Pioneer PL-300 turntable at a flea market. The unit was in excellent condition but I wanted something more in the audio department. He had an Audio-Technica cartridge of unknown age and how many users. Switching to this Ortofon 2M has undeniably improved the sound quality just like that. Installation only took a few minutes and the included instructions were pretty self-explanatory. I installed on an existing shell, no problems at…

I really wanted to love this pickup as I've been watching it for many years and have had good experiences with the Ortofon OM line in the past. I've just bought a new turntable (Fluance RT80) with a thrift store amp (Yamaha RX596) playing through old Rogers db101 speakers and it seemed like the right time to try Red, add an instant upgrade and (hopefully) creating a budget for sonic nirvana. Turns out it wasn't the best idea I've ever had. Maybe it's because of the compatibility with my gear…

Just received and made some tests and comparisons. I have a good AT PL120 turntable, but note that the table has some anti-skating built in (the head comes off the platter gently when balancing, presumably due to wire twist) so I always have the anti-skating at zero calmly. When the stylus touches the outer edge of the record there is no indication that it wants to move left or right, so I assume the adjustment will work. I installed this cartridge in an AT shell with the needle in exactly the…
