as described. Installing an SSD just got easier!

My mid-2011 iMac 27-inch hard drive decided to screw it up (see OWC's 2011 report on iMac's built-in digital sensor, which I also wrote). I decided to replace the original 1TB internal hard drive. with 120 GB Solid State Drive and 3 TB hard drive. After some internet searching I found that this cable was probably what I needed. If you buy it, use the ifixit and OWC tutorials. Take your time and it should work. My hard drive installation took about 1 hour 30 minutes from start to finish and I…

Pros
  • Durable surface
Cons
  • Sad hardware

OWC isn't known for quality products and this cable is no different. I've been using this SSD kit in my Imac 27 inch for the last month with no problems. More than enough length per cable and high quality construction materials. I highly recommend this cable if you are looking to upgrade your Imac to a second internal SSD.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Almost never

The cable is as expected. It has worked flawlessly so far and makes a good impression. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. $18 for a short cable is a bit steep. Not a big complaint, just a small review. I would buy it again. Overall I am very satisfied and would recommend this product and this seller. Thanks for a great product.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Makes your iMac work like a new iMac.

The biggest improvement you can make to a traditional (read off) Mac or Windows computer is to upgrade to an SSD. With OWC's internal SSD kit, you can add an SSD to a standard hard drive and still keep the DVD drive. Boot from the SSD and it's like a new computer. The facility is not for the faint of heart. Feasible with the right tools and workspace, but my local Apple dealer did the installation for a reasonable fee.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • This worries me

I had an internal hard drive enclosure that replaced the CD-ROM drive with a second hard drive but after that Adapter and following the installation instructions the iMac now retains both the primary hard drive and CD drive plus it has an SSD which breathes new life into my aging iMac!Be sure to watch the tutorial video before actually installing , as this requires careful planning and handling of fragile electronic components compared to simply replacing a CD drive with a hard drive case…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Was damaged

After 6 months it still works great. One of the best parts of this cable.

I added an important SSD to my imac for the OS drive using this cable. After 6 months it still works great. One of the best parts of this cable is the tutorial video on their website. Be sure to check it out to understand how it works.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • No Form Required

You need a right angle on the motherboard connector.

On the logic board side, the connector should be square, but it's straight, causing the center of the board to stick out further than it should. This causes my screen to not sit flush in the top right corner when fully assembled. The cable is stiffer than the original so it doesn't bend. The cable *works* but could be improved with a right angle motherboard connector. It was installed in a 2011 iMac 27 inch.

Pros
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Worked well with 2011 27 " iMac + Samsung 840 SSD

I am using this "kit" to add a 500GB Samsung EVO 840 SSD to a 2011 27" iMac. First off, even though the product's name is "Installation Kit", it only has a cable and a few pieces of double-sided tape that make up the Installation Kit. I was able to successfully use the cable to add an SSD behind my optical drive. iMac, and it comes with all the tools you need to get your job done. However, I highly recommend watching the video on the OWC website which shows you how to do the job and has very…
