Description of ๐Ÿš Enhanced Rice and Small Grains Washing Colander by OXO Good Grips

Designed to allow water to strain at the ideal rate to wash impurities and starch from rice, quinoa, buckwheat, barley and more. Water pools to show when water is clear and grains are clean. Small, square holes help prevent tiny grains from falling through. Pour spout features extra drain holes to remove excess water. Soft, comfortable, non-slip handles make it easy to shake out extra water, agitate the grains, and pour into your cooking vessel. Strainer is also great for rinsing berries.

Not suitable for quinoa as stated.

Quinoa gets stuck in holes and is very difficult to remove. It's perfect for rice and other large grains. However, I bought it specifically for the quinoa it was advertised for and it doesn't work, hence the one star.

Not suitable for quinoa

Quinoa gets stuck in the holes making it impossible to clean (just with a toothpick) and doesn't allow the water to drain completely making it unusable for me. This is probably normal with other cereals, but not as described with quinoa. i will return this

If you cook a lot of rice, you need this!

In order to cook rice in a rice cooker, it must be washed several times. Before receiving this product, I put my hand on the container and hoped the rice would not end up in the rinse water. It solves everything. Rinse the rice over the sink two, three, four times. Then take a spoon and scrape it in a rice cooker. Put the right amount of water on the stove and you're good to go.

Better than expected!

This OXO Good Grips Quinoa Strainer is fantastic. This is one of those rare products that is better than you would expect. The water drains well, but slowly enough to really hand rinse the quinoa. I wash the quinoa until it's super clean. And then I wash a little more. Quinoa is one of those grains that needs a good cleaning. The sieve holes are the perfect size for quinoa.

Perfect for washing fine grains

As I've found with all OXO products, it's very well made and durable. The extra fine-meshed drain and the original spout are ideal for draining small grains such as quinoa and also suitable for larger grains such as rice. The round shape of the bowl contains loose grains without spilling. It drains a little slowly due to the small area of the holes, so it's best to measure and rinse the grains, then set them aside in the sink while you prepare the other ingredients. It's the perfect tool forโ€ฆ

Quinoa Light Cleansing Answer

I love OXO and this unique product is another great reason to love me. The problem with quinoa is cleaning. I recently learned that if you soak quinoa overnight, the seeds absorb the toxin that needs to be washed off (Dr. Andrew Weil). So you don't want to dunk it. You want to keep flushing it as often as possible. This is by far the best quinoa rinse. It drains slowly enough that you can grab the seeds and squeeze them dry, then rinse again. I pour 2 1/2 liters of water into the pyrex bowelโ€ฆ

Good product but more grains get stuck over time.

If I had written the review sooner I would have given it 5 stars. The main reason I bought it is to wash quinoa and similar small grains. Has worked great for a few months with no beans stuck in the hole (used 2-3 times a week), then a few beans got stuck in the wells, then a few more beans, then a visible amount of beans stuck (so I had to use a toothpick to push out the beans). In fact, over time, more and more grains got stuck. Also, it seems that once the grains are stuck in the holes andโ€ฆ

BUY IT - although it's plastic

I've been hesitant to buy an OXO grain strainer for months because I really need a stainless steel strainer that's good for washing at least 4 cups of tiny raw grains . After much searching and reading reviews, I couldn't find one that (with some certainty) retained fine grains in the wash, didn't rust, and could stay in my sink. So I finally bought an OXO Grain Flushing Strainer and I absolutely love it. First, it's a very effective kitchen tool for washing multiple cups of raw grains. I canโ€ฆ
