An economical and easy solution for connecting water butts!

I was looking for a way to connect 4 55 gallon plastic barrels in a rain barrel system which I installed. It was surprisingly cheap compared to most alternative products designed for this purpose. I was able to install them at the bottom of each keg and use ready made PVC fittings from a home store to connect them together and have them line up as you fill. It's nice to have them at the bottom of the barrel as I don't have water retention when draining for the winter. Easy to assemble and seals

Weak, very poorly made junk bulkheads.

I have several aquariums and have used different brands of baffles. These are by far the worst partitions I've come across. The external thread does not align with the seam of the injection mold. The internal thread does not seal. On all 4 bulkheads I could not seal a standard NPT PVC fitting without leaking with teflon tape or teflon pipe paste. When trying to screw an NPT fitting deep enough to get a good seal, the very brittle plastic on these bulkheads broke. I threw away all 4 and will…

Pros
  • Industrial & Scientific
Cons
  • Not sure

They work well in situations where they won't be shaken. If you use them in an aquarium, great. They will work very well for you. If you plan on using them to craft rain barrels, they MIGHT work for you. The problem is in the bulkhead nut. The plastic bulkhead nut may spring back, loosen and leak if shaken/hit/slapped/slapped/stared etc too hard. Now this CAN be fixed, and usually quickly (just tighten the nut), but in the meantime there will be some leakage. As this is beyond what these…
