It does NOT stand up as shown in the picture. The zipper doesn't hold its shape, it almost doesn't work without a cat in it, but it's very comfortable to lie in, and when it gets cold, I really think it will be warm and cozy in it. My tricky kitty walked right up to him and lay flat on him, so he's definitely a keeper! Very well made except that it does not keep its shape. Maybe it shouldn't be as nice as pictured. In general I am satisfied with the purchase and definitely recommend it.

My roommates have the exact same scratching post from ANOTHER Amazon seller, they have had it for almost a year with overweight cats sitting on it and their tree has not broken.
