Klein Tools VDV226-110 Ratcheting Crimper/Stripper/Cutter for RJ11/RJ12 & RJ45 Connectors Review

I always expect Kline tools to cost extra money and this one is no exception. The Kline Cr Imper/Multitool works very well and I had no issues with crimping when we damaged several ends of the cable and had to replace it. The pass-through connectors this crimping tool is designed for are the way to go, saving you time, money and hassle.

I spent a decent amount of money on this and the wire stripper and crimping and cutting feature is badly lacking. The space near the trimmer and crimper has gaps. Did I get a defective tool? Are they all like that? I really wanted it to work. I will contact the seller and see what they can do as I like the versatile tool.

Overall this tool works pretty well. The next version needs to fix two design flaws: 1: The shielded Cat6 cable is too big to fit in a wire stripper. It will come, but you must "work it in". 2: Be extra careful not to pinch your hands when crimping or stripping. I squeezed my hand pretty hard the first time I used it. Aside from these issues, the tool works quite well and the build quality is good.

This tool works as advertised. I'm not sure why anyone would use a regular RJ45 crimp tool and not a through tool. We have both and I like this one a lot better. I think it's much easier to use if you're an amateur. The only issue I had was that the cable stripper works well with some Cat5e cables but not others. I bought power plugs from Klein Tools and they are perfect for this tool. Now I'm making my own patch cords!

I only use Klein Tools, go through RJ45 connectors with this crimping tool and it always works great. I think people reporting that the tool doesn't cut all the wires are probably using another brand of RJ45 connectors. Klein forks are a little more expensive than regular forks, but they're worth it. I've made thousands of connections in my time and while I wish someone had found a much easier way, I saved so much time with these crimping pliers. I had to make a little over 100 ends and EVERY one of them came out perfect. 100%. I've seen some people complain about the wires not being completely cut and getting stuck; along with some other ailments. If you want this tool to work properly you need to do two very important things: 1. Use the correct Klein RJ45 connectors for the cable you are using! (i.e. do not use a CAT6 connector with CAT5E)2.
