I soaked them for about 36 hours before connecting them to the pump. The bubbles looked exactly like they were coming from the air stones that came with the pump. A waste of money by my standards, didn't work as advertised.

If you can regulate the flow in the aeration system, a lower setting will help create smaller bubbles. Smaller bubbles ensure better tank ventilation. the fact that there are four products that you can easily replace if one of them is clogged, but this will happen forever.

I have been buying Penn Plax products for over 40 years but am a little disappointed with the stones I have received. There are four pieces in the pack, one of the bubble stones breaks at the nozzle. I fixed it with super glue instead of returning the packaging. No big deal, just a quality note.
