Liner tubes in brake tools

Die set Poor workmanship; The halves of the die must be carefully aligned and the bevel on which the bell is made is very poorly finished. I use 5052 aluminum tubing. The 1/4" die is too small. To flare properly, the tool must be fully closed, resulting in an oval flare and damage to the tubing. Can work on steel or stainless steel, but I have gave it up and bought the right one.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Only available in black

Pretty junk, useless.

Generally garbage. See photos. First off, the 3/8" hole is .051" too small to grip the pipe. This results in a wavy oval protrusion. if the screws are tightened directly above the finger. I use public steel pipe from American Grease Stick co. just like what your auto parts store has behind the counter - nothing exotic.

The tool is best repaired in Brake Tools

The flaring tool crushed my 3/8 copper/nickel and deformed it first. Case AN did not slip into the bell. So I clamped it in the drill press, made sure it was level, and fed the 11/32 bit through the hole. Now it does really good flares and the tube still fits snugly in the tool without leaving a lot of marks or distortion. It serves me well for AN fuel lines, the rest of my hose work is 45 double brake flares. The $20 tool works fine for what I need.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • There are problems

Works and costs

Understand it for what it is and don't expect it to be what it isn't. This is a 37 degree flare tool for under $25. Don't expect performance from a tool that costs five times as much. That being said, I've successfully done 8 flares on a rigid heavy hydraulic line with this tool with no issues. This will do some damage to the tube on the clamp due to the design, but it was purely cosmetic. To be honest I wasn't expecting it to work that well based on the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Decent tool, best in brake flaring tools

This is a decent flaring tool for the price. Just keep in mind that this is for 37 degree flashes, which aren't your typical sanitary flashes. Flare fittings that you can purchase at your local supply store generally have a 45 degree flare. If you use JIC fittings or AN fittings, which are almost the same, the required flare is 37 degrees. I didn't have much trouble with this tool, although I did wonder how tight I had to tighten the clamp around the pipe. I was a little concerned that I would…

get something better. The picture is also inaccurate

Can work with specific diameter tubes but not the aluminum tubes I ordered from Summit. I wasn't expecting much for the price, but the quality is definitely lacking. If you are planning to make oil or fuel lines for your car, get something better. The picture isn't right either. My 3/8 pipe was deformed so badly that the sleeve couldn't reach the flare even if I tried to grind the dents. The sealing surface of the flange is badly worn, possibly because the cone is not chrome-plated as shown in…

Perfect Scrap - Brake Flaring Tools

If a tool fails to do its one job then its value is zero no matter the price. My picture speaks for itself. I wish I had read the negative reviews with pictures before buying. This piece of junk completely distorts the tube and doesn't produce even remotely acceptable flash. Either there is a lot of production variability with this product, or the people writing positive reviews have never seen the right flashlight. My picture shows an example of a proper 37 degree AN flare that I made using…
