Feels good but trackball function is poor

I bought this for home office use. While comfortable to use, I found the trackball functionality required to use it as a mouse to be incompatible at best. Sometimes the cursor freezes and doesn't move even after several attempts when the trackball is moved. Cursor movement is also somewhat unpredictable: it slows down or speeds up for no apparent reason, and it's often very difficult to move it to the exact spot to bring up a drop-down menu, for example. I've tried adjusting the Windows mouse…

Pros
  • Natural ergonomics with right-hand design; recommended for Repetitive Strain Injury RSI users and users who work extra long hours
Cons
  • unreliable

Terrible trackball, fits keyboards, mice and accessories

Uses a laser tracking system instead of a photo-optical system so tracking is terrible. I can move my thumb fast enough to lose track without performing a thumb motion. Overall, the ergonomics feel very poor compared to the old Logitech Trackman Wheel, the newer Elecom, or the M870. That little thing is annoying. The forward and back buttons look awful and are in an awkward position. The keys themselves have great feedback, but the overall design is sorely lacking. Sensitivity switches are…

Pros
  • System requirements: Windows 7/8/10, USB port; Perixx 12 month limited warranty included
Cons
  • Durable

The trackball is terrible

I've been using a trackball for 20 years. I've been using a Logitech Trackman mouse the whole time. Some of the plastic inside is worn out otherwise I will never stop using it. I bought these as a replacement. I've had it for a month and a half and from day one the ball got sticky. The cursor jumps when you move it. I lowered the dpi as low as possible hoping that would smooth things out, but that didn't help. I cleaned it up and even moved the ball from the old Trackman to a new mouse. It…

Pros
  • Automatic power saving; Mouse automatically goes into sleep mode after 10 seconds in sleep mode, 8-10 minutes in standby mode
Cons
  • Not the best

Fits well but gets too hot to be comfortable

My current (old) trackball is a Logitech M570, so I'll often compare it to this device in my review. The Perimice 717 is a very good trackball and a good alternative to the well-known Logitech M570 (my current trackball) or its very expensive successor, the Ergo MX (tried it, didn't like it). Although I have small hands, this was not an issue when trying this device. The shape is quite comfortable. On my M570, the pinky tends to fall off and land on the table (or whatever surface I have it on).

Pros
  • Personalize your work environment with a programmable feature; You can download the software by visiting the Perixx website
Cons
  • I'll keep quiet
