VW's 2054cc air-cooled engine thanks to Pertronix.

Pertronix is VW's life-saving air-cooled grace. The old stand of Bosch 034 is no longer made so this is the ONLY answer. (Don't worry about other cheap copies.) Buy once, cry once. Mine went into an everyday 2054cc engine. The difference between this and "uh 9" 009 is day and night. VERY SMOOTH AND RELIABLE,,,

I installed this on a single port A 67 with a 30/31 PICT3 carburetor. At first it stumbled and jumped out of the carburetor but if your patient and it repeats in the carburetor setting until the engine revs is 850-900rpm with the vacuum plug it will work fine once the vacuum is reconnected to the manifold . I ended up slightly increasing the low speed to 8 degrees BTDC instead of 7.5 and the high speed to 32 degrees BTDC instead of 30. Now it is stable. No stumbling. No need to google it to…

I replaced my carburetor with an EMPI 34 PICT-3 and replaced my 009 distributor with this one from Pertronix. After that, the engine sneezed, wobbled and accelerated weakly in the lower speed range - all signs of a very lean mixture. After a week of trying to tune and start the engine with starter spray, I found that my new Pertronix manifold allowed air to be drawn into the carburetor through the vacuum tube, creating a lean mixture. Works like a champ!

Installed in my VW 74 Thing along with a blue Bosch coil. In 5 minutes it caught fire for the first time in over 30 years! The instructions were good except for the lack of information on where to connect the vacuum port on the Vertigo. The fitting should be connected to the carburetor vacuum fitting facing the dizziness, just at or below the carburetor throat. I also noticed that there is a rubber bumper under the rotor cover.
