We needed something that would last long enough to keep our dog from sitting on the couch while we enjoy snacks before a football game or eat lunch while we have a Watching a movie. THE BEST BASIC GATE! This is my second gate from this company. I did a lot of research because I knew I would probably need 2 of these and I couldn't afford to get them for the $65 plus price. This is a good looking, strong, easily adjustable gate depending on my needs for that day (like blocking off a hallway or stairs and a bedroom). 2 Shih Tzu in designated areas. Good deal for a great product!

We have a large opening between rooms that I didn't want to damage with screws. I found these gates and they work great. I installed it just above the opening and I have some heavy books supporting it on either side. We have a lab pup and while he can easily push or flip these gates, we have taught him not to and he doesn't. We'll eventually remove it once she's potty trained, but I'm glad it's an alternative while she learns. The rest of the family simply climbs on top if necessary.

They are very useful, especially with new puppies to make a handle. I complain that they can't be folded in any direction, which is a bit of a nuisance when turning them into a handle, but my main complaint is that they (the spindles, at least) are made out of cheap MDF wood. My dog chewed through the plywood in about 5 seconds when left alone and it looks like cardboard underneath. I really liked this freestanding gate because it leaves no marks on the wall (from jigs) and we didn't need a gate that could be permanently installed. We only needed it to keep my older dog in the hallway (she has plenty of space) while we go out. For extra safety we put a chair next to her and because she has arthritis in her legs she can't jump over it. The initial order for a pet gate was a piece of wood with a strong frame around each section. This order looks more like plastic than wood and has a narrower bezel around the sections. The distance between the bars is also larger in this order; about half an inch. It's not a problem now, but it may have allowed the pup to crawl through when he was younger. I saved a few bucks by ordering 'used' (ie returned) from the Revain warehouse. It arrived in perfect condition with no sign of ever being unpacked. We've been using it for a few weeks now and it suits our two small dogs (14lbs and 7lbs) well. I was afraid the free standing gate would tip over but that wasn't a problem.
