PH8A Extra Guard Passenger Filter Review

I have been using Fram filters for 50 years and they have never let me down. In fact, they usually go way beyond spec (I don't always change my oil right away like I should). But I never lost. I've driven over 300,000 miles on the last 4 trucks and vans, I'd say they do the job.

This filter is fine. I just used it on my Big Block Ford during an oil break. I chose it because it was cheap and decent. The rubber cap is easy to tighten and loosen by hand, I wish more filters had this option. But I'd rather spend a few bucks more for a much better quality filter.

For $3 with a few tweaks you can get a quality oil filter that gets the job done. Fram companies have been trusted in the industry for many years. Personally, I use motorized transportation when I can since I drive a Ford, but when it's not available I choose to. I use full synthetic oil on my '87 Mustang and have had no problems. The actual filter is not the same as the original PH8A. It's the same overall size but now has a back panel that prevents water from running off. If you use this filter on a machine with an anti-leak hose, it will not work. The new filter will require you to either discard the hose or shorten it to accommodate the check valve on this new version. It should probably have a different part number to avoid confusion.

I've been using Fram filters for over 30 years and have never had a problem with them working. Never had a leak and every time after 3000-5000 miles my oil still looks so clear (translucent). In fact, the key to keeping the oil and engine clean is to change the oil regularly. i have two cars One from 1996 with 180,000 miles and the other from 1964 with over 300,000 miles.
