Great player, good price, don't let others fool you

Why buy a DVD player? Do you watch your films? or do you play your own music? For me it was easy. I see many people dismissing this player for its CD music quality (which I haven't used on the player yet) and giving it at least 3 stars. Folks, this stuff is for DVD, not CD. From what I've seen, this player is pretty damn good. The picture and sound are great, and the remote control, which is also often put off (probably by most of you tech-savvy people), isn't annoying at all, in fact I reallyโ€ฆ

Best player for the money

After much research into DVD players in this price range, I finally narrowed it down to the Philips 711 or Toshiba 1700. I actually wanted to buy a Toshiba, but then changed my mind for two reasons. I bought a Toshiba unit (literally) from Best Buy and it was very light and cheap looking, especially the back. Philips seemed very solid to me. I've also just bought a new Philips 27 inch TV (Silver) with phenomenal picture quality and component video capabilities and thought a Philips DVD playerโ€ฆ

Great player for beginners

I just bought this player yesterday and apart from needing a modulator for the back of my TV I had no trouble getting it set up and working. Based on most reviews, the DVD711AT along with the DVD701AT are the top two models for people buying their first DVD player. I found the sound and picture quality to be crisp and clear on the few movies I watched, and the movies took as long to load as any other DVD player I've seen. It also played my CDs and CDRs with no problems and the sound was exactly

You get what you pay for.

I bought this player to replace my DVD-ROM drive which was hopelessly erratic when playing DVDs. The benefit of the Philips DVD711 is that it hasn't rejected any of my DVDs yet. This is a great value player with great sound and lots of options for a player of its value. However, the system has its drawbacks, albeit minor ones. It shows no sign of DVD-R support, a format that Revain says it's compatible with but never mentions in the manual. Also, the player seems to be tied to the remoteโ€ฆ

Technology can be retrofitted

Now I don't need a very expensive DVD player. To be honest, I don't think the performance figures are worth the price hike. I have some pretty serious audiophile gear; However, I don't have an HDTV, so I can't comment on digital images. I've bought a lot of cheap DVDs in the past and to be honest linear branching seems to be the most problematic symptom of the problem for many players. Philips hasn't necessarily outshone the competition, but overall it's a much more solid performance. You getโ€ฆ

Best of DVD Players and Recorders

I'm writing this review based on information from a person who has a dual speaker system with an amplifier (no back panels were actually used) and a 27 inch TV S-In owns video. Let's be honest. It doesn't matter how many lines the Toshiba sd1600 (540) has a higher resolution than the Philips DVD711 (500). If you have a regular TV, it still can't even record 500. I mean, if you're not in that small percentage of people who have very sharp eyesight and a great HDTV or better in terms of pictureโ€ฆ
