because I don't like an unknown substance that dissolves in my food

Disappointed with the product. There are cracks in the wood that appear to have been filled with some type of putty that has started to dissolve in the foods I've used it in. I cannot trust this product as I am uncomfortable with an unknown substance dissolving in my food. .

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • I have no aversion to it, everything is fine

This is a solid wood part

This is a solid wood part. After several servings of mashing up live cabbage before packing, I realized I don't really like mashed cabbage, preferring it crunchy, more like a vegetable than a condiment. The Lake Sealer is really good for packing food in jars, its two ends work well with two standard sized jar necks.

Pros
  • a practical item
Cons
  • periodicity

No hardwood. the best in home brewing and winemaking

In the photos this packer looks like solid wood, but it's made of several layers glued together. There were defects in the wood which were filled with wood glue to fill in and hide the defects! The seams were not filled with a continuous layer. I contacted the seller and although he didn't respond to the email they sent a replacement. It's still a few pieces glued together, but they're much better made than the first ones.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • unreliable

Bad quality control. Firewood splits right out of the box!

Poor quality control. I opened up this wooden rammer and immediately started showing it off as the color is beautiful and the surface is very smooth. However, at a premium price point, I wasn't expecting to see wood split right out of the box. See attached photos. I guess I'll have to hammer some black walnut in a lathe and use that as a very expensive jig. Save money and look elsewhere.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • No machine

Perfect for making homemade sauerkraut!

Used this to make homemade sauerkraut and cut my labor time in half. Much faster than the old wooden spoon I used. More efficient, beautiful, smooth, well finished wood that is comfortable to hold and use. He quickly pushed the cabbage to break the cages and turn it into an herb! The ends of this tool are 2 different sizes; The large rounded end fits wide-necked jars, while the narrower end is ideal for smaller jars. :) The edges are evenly and neatly rounded. Love it!

Great tool, poor Amazon handling

I have 3 of these (2 came with a kickstarter supporting cucumber tubes). The reason I give it a five is because the Kickstarter backed ones are perfect. The one I got from Amazon (with pebbles) is unusable as it has a terrible smell that won't go away no matter how many times it's washed. It feels (that's exactly how it smells) that someone peed on her either in a warehouse or on the way. When I got backed with a Kickstarter this sentiment was confirmed as there is no smell. The one ordered…

Convenient to use.

Item arrived quickly in perfect condition. I bought it mainly for mashing cabbage to put in a jar and ferment into sauerkraut. This article has worked well for this purpose. It felt very comfortable in my hand when using it. Each end is a different size meaning it can be used in both regular and wide mouth jars. It was easy to hand wash and dry. I lubricated it with some cooking oil before storing. If you will, it stands upright when you store it. I'm not the type to buy "gadgets" for tasks…

Practical yet beautiful enough to be displayed as a work of art

This MASONTOPS BAR PACKER made of acacia wood is so beautiful that it can be placed on a table or bookshelf as a work of art. The wood is very hard, smooth and dense, with a beautiful grain. Mine was bought to stuff homemade sauerkraut in a jar. It is very useful for this purpose or for any jar packing challenges you might encounter while preserving at home. The tamper stands separately on the worktop. It has two different sized ends to accommodate larger or smaller can necks. The tamper CANNOT

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Almost everything is in order

When I ordered this I took a ruler and compared the length to the measurements given. It seemed long enough to use with my shard. Not so! Once you start squeezing the cabbage, it will disappear into the jar. If you plan on using this with a pitcher, forget it, it's too short. This works very well for stone jars. If that's what you're buying for, it's probably worth it, although there are a few other simpler free options. One of the reasons I bought it was the beautiful wood, but it looked…
